Three boys Antonio Grosso Epifanio Lovato and Rumaldo Rodriques died from burns after black blasting powder carried in their pockets ignited. They found powder in a road gang tool box near Tijeras and lit it with matches on the way home. Angelo Garluzzi survived after leaving the group before the blast.

Phoenix July 12 The 1920 valuation of producing mines rose sharply when the state tax commission added 65 246 512 79 to the earlier 359 029 914 57. The new total reaches 454 276 481 86 and covers real estate and personal property but excludes customs smelters and iron producing mines.
Eugene V. Debs will direct socialist campaign from Atlanta federal prison unless pardoned for espionage. Socialist leaders plan frequent prison visits and will appeal to President Wilson for Debs release with about 200 supporters prepared to meet him and urge action.
Chicago July 12 Two true bills charging Carl Wanderer with the murder of his wife and the hired stranger were voted by a grand jury. Police pursue a theory that Wanderer killed his wife and the robber due to his interest in a 16 year old girl Julie Schmitt who knew Wanderer and accompanied him to an amusement park.
The Polish delegation at the conference expresses strong dissatisfaction with the allied note to the Russian Soviet government proposing an armistice between Bolsheviks and Polish forces. They expect to be compelled to accept. Dispatches report Allies sending a Moscow armistice proposal conditioned on Polish withdrawal to the natural frontier.
The American Relief Association and the American Red Cross completed evacuations of Vilna in the north and Lemberg on the southern front. Bolshevik forces were about forty kilometers from Vilna with Vilna under defense preparation. Lemberg was not yet in danger. Bolsheviks occupied Poniatyosee and Viazyn and pressed Molodetchna despite heavy losses.
