Troops march into the Globe region amid a jammed street leading to the mine. Strikers remain largely orderly with no demonstrations on the soldiers arrival, keeping to the outskirts and avoiding confrontation.
A cloudy, wet day with cooler temperatures expected across the region. Skies remain overcast with scattered showers and possible brief clearing later in the day.
A daily weather brief reports twenty four hour conditions ending at 6 p m yesterday. Max temperature 84 degrees, min 59, range 25. Temperature at 6 p m 80 with a south wind and partly cloudy skies.
Federal troops arrived in the Globe Miami district and set up encampments near the Old Dominion mine and Copper Hill. Cavalry and machine gun units completed detraining by 9:20 pm, as 1,000 locals gathered nearby. Pickets at the mine stood firm, but order prevailed and many workers expected to return tomorrow.
Former Gov George W Haunt named mediator for Warren district metal workers and may visit. He has not yet accepted. Changeover by mines shifts continues with 60 plus workers reporting. Governor Calles of Sonora plans to travel to Cananea to mediate the conflict between Mexican officials and Cananea Consolidated Copper Company executives that led to mine and smelter shutdown. Inspector general Andres Garcia and fiscal agent Roberto Pesquiera may accompany him to the copper camp.
Gen P Elias Calles governor of Sonora telegraphed from Magdalena to the Mexican consul in Douglas that a satisfactory agreement was reached for settling the strike at El Tigre and a dispute with Moctezuma Copper Co over the night shift at Navanari. A later inquiry at El Tigre offices could not confirm the report as a conference had been held but no results announced.
The Lone Tree Development Company of Water Canyon Socorro County filed incorporation papers in Santa Fe on July 5. Capitalization is 8533, paid up, with 1250 shares to J A Powerback statutory agent and 1667 shares to H C Trost El Paso, 1666 to William Kemp Magdalena, 1000 shares each to D M Chandler and W A Moore Sapulpa Oklahoma, 250 for Club Masters Sapulpa, and 500 shares each to J A Boyd Wm ob Longmire and T R Dean Sapulpa.
In Denver Colorado on July 6 Charles H. Moyer president of the International Union of Mine Mill and Smelter Workers said the Industrial Workers of the World have gained control of the Bisbee local union and that the charter will be revoked within forty eight hours after a verifier checks the books He telegraphed Governor Campbell and stated the action will be taken once a man is sent to Bisbee to inspect the records.
Paris July 5 French general headquarters estimates the total German deaths from the war's start to March 1917 at not less than 1,500,000 after careful study of relevant documents.
British advance and intensified French artillery activity stretch from the Aisne to the Meuse as wars shift across fronts. Austro German offensives probe in Galicia and near Lipni cadovia while Russian resistance halts Brzezany attacks. Macedonian and Romanian fronts see heavy artillery use and renewed Italian front battles.
Whittington, held for the murder of Mrs. Frances Harrison in the Adams street district two years ago, was released today as the murder charge was dismissed in superior court on the state’s motion for lack of evidence. He was arrested in Texas after a statewide search.
Major General F B Maurice reports British enterprise since the war began. Prisoners total 117776 with many released in Africa, while British losses reach 51077 including Indian troops. The decree transfers control of the company from the commission, ruling it operates in interstate commerce.
Paris reports from April 15 to June 30 Franco-British troops on the Western front captured 63,222 prisoners including 1,278 officers. They also took 509 guns 503 trench mortars and 1,318 machine guns in the period.
In San Francisco, July, the defense opened its case in the trial of Mrs. Rena Mooney over a bomb explosion last July. Attorney Maxwell McNutt said alibi evidence would place Mooney on the roof of her building with witnesses and photographs, aiming to refute state witness Nellie Edeau. The defense also contends Warren Etlings, serving a life term for a bomb murder, was not on the roof with a suitcase as Estelle Smith testified.
In Rockford 121 men were arrested for anti draft disturbances. Judge Landis sentenced 117 to one year and a day in the Chicago house of correction, two to thirty days, one to sixty, and one to ninety days. Prisoners face stricter conditions at the Chicago institution.

Ex Queen Liliuokalani raised the flag at Washington Place, symbolizing unity with 15,000 soldiers and sailors. California completed its quota of recruits for the regular army, joining twelve states that have supplied their allotted numbers. Total recruiting yesterday reached 1,489, bringing the grand total to 187,018 across all states.
Will Draft for Regulars reports that New York sources say the army strength is about 47,000 below war needs and that conscription may begin within ten days. Washington indicated drafting could start soon, with states army involvement implied.
Adjutant General McCain announced that intelligent and forceful men may apply to the second officers training camps even if under 31 and without prior military training. The government seeks ages 25 to 45 as most suitable and will not bar under 31 applicants when qualifications are equal. Applications close July 15.
