New York January 5 In a crowd of more than 1600 entering the Hippodrome for a Mass meeting of the International Ladies' Garment Workers, several women were knocked down and slightly injured. Speakers urged women to join the tailors strike now under way. A strike vote is planned early this week. A committee of manufacturers and merchants was formed to discuss the union’s demands and possible settlement. Employers showed willingness to grant a 10 percent wage increase but refused to recognize the union.
British consul for Oregon Washington Idaho Montana and Alaska died at his Portland home after a prolonged illness. The consul served across the region and his death occurred late today.
New York Jan 4 General Cipriano Castro former president of Venezuela detained at Ellis Island since arrival last Tuesday offers bond to obey federal court orders while visiting the United States affidavit signed today to be presented at a hearing on his writ of habeas corpus demanding immigration authorities show cause why he should not be permitted to enter as a tourist It was not yet known if Castro would appear in person at the hearing.

Frazer allegedly aided Mrs Slingsby in passing the child as her own to secure Rev C Slingsby’s fortune. Slingsbys abroad contest legitimacy amid a regal family dispute. A high school girl named as mother and Victoria BC cited as substitution site. Slingsbys and Frazer deny the charges as a conspiracy outcome.
In Wallace Idaho tomorrow executives led by PF Augustus Heinge and other Stewart Mining Company directors arrive to fight Ontario Mining Company over possession of the Ontario ore body valued at about 1 060 000 dollars with mining engineers and geologists advising.

Abraham Staab a longtime New Mexico resident and Santa Fe businessman died after an operation in Pasadena California. His son Dr Edward Staab traveled from New York to assist and escort the body to Santa Fe for burial with funeral plans to be announced. Members of Staab family in Santa Fe and elsewhere were notified of the death and related movements of relatives including Paul, Louis, Louie and Julius Staab and Mrs Kfeld Nordhaus Baer.
A. Staab born 1839 in Westphalia Germany emigrated to America in 1858. He and his brother built a wholesale house in New Mexico expanding to Arizona Colorado and Chihuahua. He retired twelve years prior and was once among New Mexico’s wealthiest men. He married Julia Schuster in 1869 and had seven children. Staab served public trust roles including capitol rebuilding secretary and long Santa Fe resident.
