In Chicago a police attempt to arrest Harry Feinberg ended in deadly gunfire. Officer James Keefe was killed and partner Richard Birmingham mortally wounded as Feinberg fired on them. Track man saved hundreds of lives in Wheeling incident
Wheeling West Virginia January 5 a track man prevented a major disaster on the Baltimore and Ohio express by stopping a switch obstruction on the track before the New York and Chicago train could derail. The heavy bar was forced into the switch and twenty minutes were needed to clear it. over 200 passengers were aboard. The track man noticed the dangerous condition and acted to avert catastrophe.
