President Coolidge completes his official cabinet picks and orders a special session of the Senate to consider nominees Kellogg Jardine and Warren. Debate centers on Warren’s confirmation while others predict possible delays to avoid stalling pending legislation.
Weather notes forecast generally fair conditions for Denver and New Mexico Arizona. Northern Rocky region expects frequent snows or snow showers with a temperature drop from the start of the week. Southern Rocky region may see windy, mixed precip with above normal at first and colder later especially east of the divide. Cave City Ky Feb 14 The Associated Press reports Brig Gen H H Denhardt lieutenant governor and head of Floyd Collins rescue effort issued a 1500 word statement blaming a Chicago newspaper correspondent for circulating rumors that Collins might not be in the cave He protested the fake journalism claim drove to Frankfort to seek a military board inquiry and notes the reporter has been replaced The general says he has heard no one doubt Collins is in Sand Cave and calls the rumors a publicity hoax.
West Virginia sent mine rescue expert R. M. Labew for Cave City Kentucky to assist with the Floyd Collins Sand Cave rescue under Governor Morgan’s orders. The move follows Kentucky authorities seeking regional help.
Cheyenne February 14 Governor Nellie Taylor Ross announced she will take part in the inaugural parade for President Coolidge on March 4 and attend the inaugural ball that night. She may cancel the Washington trip if Wyoming's state assembly requires her presence, but she hopes to depart March 1.
Tacoma report states the Washington WWI veteran bonus totals 12.5 million dollars, paid at 15 per month of service to 58,011 residents. Of recipients, 48,925 remained in Washington, 7,885 lived elsewhere, 225 in U S territories, 376 abroad. First payments began March 1921.

Washington February 14 The Senate refused to strike railroad labor board appropriations from the independent offices supply bill. A Republican motion to eliminate the board funding failed 42 to 21 after extensive debate. The final bill totals 452 million dollars with over 400 million for the veterans bureau.
The Commerce Department reports U S coffee consumption for 1924 at 1 381 787 286 pounds about 500 cups per person and 12 23 pounds per capita, down from 1923. Imports reached 1 419 152 000 pounds valued at 249 524 170 dollars with much re export. Wholesale Rio number 7 price rose from 11 to 24 cents per pound.
Fire destroyed the American Royal building in Kansas City burying hundreds of motor cars tractors trucks and planes from the annual show. A fireman died and directors plan a new structure for the national flower show opening delayed from March 21 to April. Losses are estimated at 1 074 660 with insurance covering the amount. The fire origin is under investigation.

County Superintendent Atanasio Montoya reports strong support for merging San Jose and Barelas school districts after a home ballot among parents. With 230 ballots in San Jose and 80 in Barelas, only four and two dissent respectively, despite legal scheduling hurdles for elections and bond sales.
George Alexander Parks was nominated governor of Alaska and William M Jardine named Secretary of Agriculture. Frank B Kellogge's nomination as Secretary of State was sent to the Senate. Farm legislation hearings continued before Senate and House agriculture committees. The Senate refused to strike the independent offices provision for the railroad labor board. Rear Admiral Shoemaker denied before the House aircraft committee that he blue penciled a magazine article about battleship bombings.
