A Navajo man is shot and killed during an arrest attempt near Cuba New Mexico. About a hundred Navajo tribesmen gather around the body and refuse to permit a coroner's jury to approach as tensions rise between settlers and Navajos over land and posts allegedly cut on a homestead. Local unrest and past clashes compound the scene as settlers reinforce their holdings and government surveyors face hostility.
The House passed the postal pay and rate increase bill as Senate ratified the German commercial treaty with reservations. Edwin C. McGrath, found dead in a Nogales hospital room, was identified as the father of Dr. J. C. McGrath of Phoenix. The Tucson report confirms the prior discovery and identification.
A military court of inquiry in Cave City Kentucky heard witnesses about rescue efforts for Floyd Collins who remained trapped in the Sand Cave shaft. Reporters and officials testified Collins’ leg was caught and that rescue attempts included removing rock and a rope harness while speculation of a hoax was discouraged.
Doctors assert Floyd Collins remains alive as rescue teams probe a 40 foot shaft. Banana oil scent and air tests indicate motion and possible breathing, while a rock slide hinders access and safeguards are maintained for dawn attempts to reach him.

Judge Y J Stentz of the city court declined to wed Arnold Branum of Talmadge Nebraska and Amanda Stone of Clarinda Iowa. Branum age 20, Stone claimed 45 but the judge assessed her as at least 70. The groom had parental consent, and Louisiana judges may refuse marriage without reason.
Artesia New Mexico February 10 G H Sellmeyers receiver of the First National Bank of Hope announces a ten percent dividend to all creditors The bank closed two years ago when cashier Hugh Gage disappeared The payout will aid local farmers and stockmen as Hope has had no bank since the closure

Louls Fish, 19, of Canton Ohio, OSU student, was released as authorities said Irish was not involved. Fish admitted taking capsules from the dispensary for a friend, David Puskin, to save money. Puskin died of strychnine poisoning.
