Governor Charles N. Haskell affixed his signature to the capital bill while dining in a Guthrie railway eating house. The measure moves the capital to Oklahoma City and prompts immediate legal action and court proceedings over the legality of the bill.
A boiler explosion at Morwood Lake Lee company in Hittafield Massachusetts kills twelve instantly, one dies later, and three more die in hospital. Los Angeles aviation field reports Captain Arch Hoxsey flying from Pasadena over Mount Wilson in a Wright biplane clearing the peak by 4200 feet in thirty four miles. Lieutenant Vernon Holler notes a thousand planes could ferry 16,000 troops across Alps high ranges in a day. A crowd watches as Martin the French aviator narrowly escapes a fence wreck after a high wind crash, Latham attempts a save.
New Orleans reports John E. Moimant battled a gulf hurricane for ten minutes at 4,000 feet above ground before a forced landing. Wind readings at the grandstand showed 42 mph, higher aloft, while Moimant rode the gale at up to 100 mph. After 21 minutes of ascent, he nosed his Bleriot monoplane downward and landed safely, earning praise as the most remarkable aviation feat in history.
Hamuel Henry Butcher longtime MP for Cambridge University since 1906 died in London at age 79. Born in Dublin in 1850 he was son of the bishop of Meath and a noted scholar of Greek studies. He taught at Oxford Edinburgh and Harvard and served as president of the British Academy of Letters in 190% with extensive writings on Greek subjects.
A district court recount in Ester confirms Dr. John W. Elder as mayor by a one vote margin after the ballot review. Elder edges out rival candidate in a tightly contested election result upheld by the court.
In Albuquerque a special city council meeting followed a district court ruling and recount that declared Dr John W Elder mayor over Felix H Lester by 1021 to 1012 votes. Lester turned over the chair to Elder after formalities and a council vote praising Lester’s tenure.
