Washington, Dec. 29. Engineers on the Panama canal face vast figures as the record of proposed work shows the scale of the locks. The concrete needed would build eight room houses 30 by 30 feet with two stories and concrete floors and roof, enough to form a continuous street from Philadelphia to New York and still have surplus for a Weehawken street. The houses would house 120,000 people, a population equal to Minneapolis.
