A string of accidents on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day leaves upwards of 60 dead and more than 50 injured with 15 missing. Authorities report an unusual spree of incidents across multiple locations, prompting warnings and ongoing search efforts.
Temperatures plunged from five to forty six degrees below zero across the Rocky Mountain states and along the Pacific slope. Elko Nevada registered forty six below, Spokane recorded five below, Yreka California noted five below. Citrus growers in Southern California reported damage to orange and lemon crops, though precise losses were not yet confirmed due to the holiday.
Mr and Mrs William P D Shepherd foster parents of William McClintock the millionaire orphan return to Chicago amid an investigation into his death. They deny reports of a rift with Miss Isabelle Pope and say they welcomed the planned February 22 marriage. They insist no coercion or secrecy surrounded visits to McClintock’s room and attribute visitation restrictions to his doctors.
Hobart Oklahoma dec 25 AP report says a Christmas eve blaze at the rural Babb s Switch district school house left thirty two dead and thirty seven missing or dead identified in a mass morgue processions. Survivors recount a family Coffey tragedy and a dooming escape as the inferno overwhelmed the single exit and windows.

Richmond Va Pec 25 Three persons were killed and two others injured when their automobile plunged over an embankment on the Petersburg Richmond turnpike. The dead are Warl Cathright Bernie Childress and Her Man Cumberland, all of Richmond. Charles Jordan of Richmond is not expected to live. Ryland K Leonard, driver, is held on reckless driving charges.
Four persons were killed in a fire that destroyed the Stamford inn in Stamford Texas last night. The dead include Mia W. Winters of Plainview Texas and her two small children a boy and a girl and Ernest Lothpierch a cotton broker.
Lambda Mu sorority at the University of New Mexico was told on Christmas Day that the Chi Omega national council granted them a charter as Pi Gamma. Installation will be by national VP Hilda Threlkeld with support from Mrs. Myron B. Keator and reps from Arizona and Colorado chapters. Lambda Mu has existed since last Christmas.
The Missouri football team played hard but lost to Southern California 20 to 7 at the Los Angeles Coliseum on December 25. USC scored all touchdowns in the third period while Missouri’s touchdown came on a late 20 yard return after a fumble.
William A. Keleher now with the McAdoo firm in Los Angeles will be a principal speaker at a Franciscan hotel dinner Friday night. Earl Moody 18 was fatally shot by Oscar Harris who is jailed after a feud with Filmer Mitchell 29 Harris' stepson. Mitchell is being sought. In Whitestown Thomas Sheffield 19 Auburn Georgia shot an unidentified man, another fatal shooting.
Nome Alaska enjoyed a warm Christmas despite sub zero elsewhere as Santa rode a sleigh with real reindeer through the main street. Presents went to whites and Eskimos alike while temperatures rose to 40 degrees above zero and rain melted most snow.
Atlanta reports on the Palmertown Va flood aftermath from the Muck Dam break on the Holston River. Death toll estimates vary from five to twenty three as authorities confirm recovered bodies and note numerous injuries and exposure.
