More than 123 million votes cast in the Morning Journal drive for subscriptions ends in a blaze of glory with the outcome in doubt until the last ballot is checked. The campaign highlights Edina Williamg Winker as the first prize winner.
The committee to tally votes for the Albuquerque Morning Journal Salesmanship Club took possession of the ballot box at 10 o clock Sunday morning December 25th and declared the above named candidates winners with total votes polled.
After six weeks the Albuquerque Morning Journal Salesmanship Club campaign ends with prize delivery. Judges counted millions of votes as the Studebaker prizes drew keen statewide interest and heavy phone inquiries. The paper thanks participants as the campaign closes with high anticipation for results.

Millen Ga December 25 One man was killed and two seriously wounded in a gun battle sparked by a dispute over closing a road. Wilson Allen a farmer opened fire on a car with R H Chance Sidney Rowe Willie Lewis and Roscoe Chance wounding three passengers who returned fire and killed Allen.
El Paso reports juveniles involved in petty crime are not jailed in Juarez. Judge Feline Rodriguez says older offenders mentor the youths who are placed in the municipal hospital to labor. He praises the hospital’s clean surroundings for shaping honesty.

Narbourville Ky Dec 25 four men were reported killed and one badly wounded in a gun battle at Flys late today. The dead include Rose Baker Barbourville police chief Tim Pine Barbourville Jim Bodkine and his son Chick Bodkine of Elys. A Bodkine is said to be badly wounded. The shooting occurred in a remote part of the city.
Five mail planes were destroyed by fire at the United States government field in Chicago. The loss is estimated at 200000 dollars and authorities believe the blaze started when wires in one aircraft shorted.
Eugene V. Debs left Atlanta federal penitentiary at 11 20 am after his ten year espionage act sentence was commuted by President Harding. He planned to reach Washington by 7 20 am Monday and to go to Terre Haute before resuming duties. Debs refused to comment on his case. He received an ovation on release and aided Russian relief by donating Pullman fare.
Attorney General Daugherty said he expected Eugene V. Debs to call at the department of justice to discuss potential presidential commutation. Daugherty noted Debs might come for a final conference if released or if his sentence is commuted, though no formal obligation appears to exist.

Topeka Kans December 2 Miss Emma Hadorn of Pratt was elected first secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary region unit in Topeka. She resigned as Pratt’s board of education clerk and as secretary to the superintendent to take the new post. She studied at Kansas State Normal and taught in Greensburg and rural Marshal county before joining Pratt schools. Her brother Fred Hadorn, Kansas, is in Keattie with Karl Shirkey post.
The Cincinnati river here reached 53.5 feet, 3.5 feet above flood stage, rising at 0.1 foot per hour. The weather bureau predicted continued rise tomorrow with no further forecast after that. No serious damage reported, but injuries and homelessness persist in affected areas as efforts to aid them continue. Freezing temperatures were noted and some Mississippi settlements were evacuated. Property losses are estimated above a million dollars.
