St Louis December 20 Alonso Th St Clair secretary treasurer of the Teamsters and Chauffeurs union Fred L Leinemann and George Meyer members were arrested on charges of maliciously hacking to death four mules belonging to an express company during a strike. William Daven testified he heard St Clair promise Leinemann 100 dollars to poison the mules.
The U S circuit court overruled demurrers by Hamburg American and other lines against the governments suit to dissolve the Atlantic Conference. The judge ruled foreign commerce extends to passenger traffic between the U S and Europe and that the pool restrains free competition. He said foreign shipments to American ports could be kept out only by drastic action, threatening international repercussions.
At 2 p.m. President Tufts message urged material cuts in wool and woolen tariff rates and sent the tariff board report. Several navy related bills cleared the chamber.
