Flagstaff Ariz Dec 20 The coroner s jury at Winona investigating the Banta Fe collision in which Mrs Alice Bennett was killed and fifty passengers injured returned a verdict after a four day session that the wreck was caused by criminal carelessness on the part of the Santa Fe railroad and recommended it be taken up by the next grand jury.
Columbus Ga Dec 20 the south bound Beminole limited the Tlinois Central Central of Georgia fast train from Chicago to Jacksonville wrecked tonight near Weems Ala. The engine tender and every car left track. The chair car down a twenty foot embankment dining car on its side. One Pullman derailed. Three or four passengers bruised. The only person seriously injured in a necro waiter.
Report from Little Rock Arkansas describes a mob shooting George Reiley in his Devil's Bluff cell and followed by protests from African Americans. A clash between races is feared as armed White citizens patrol streets while others sleep with weapons after Matt Todd was wounded and Bailey shot.
In Sumner Mississippi Deputy Sheriff Frank Chambers was shot and killed at Black Bayou by Aaron McCoy while McCoy, handcuffed with another prisoner, was shot by bystander Henry Weems. The two suspects were taken to jail and tonight a lynching threat looms as Negro residents are terrorized and a riot is feared.
Rosebud Texas December 206 a mob of about 50 stormed the jail and hanged a Black man who had killed City Marshal Williams during an attempted custody attempt. Mayor Wardin helped pursue the suspect before the mob seized him and executed him at the fire department headquarters.
One miner dies after a week trapped 600 feet underground with a companion pulled to safety by rescuers. The surviving miner is reported in stable condition with injuries described as not life threatening. Local officials praise the successful extraction and safety crews for the perilous operation.
Two of four entombed miners in the Neugana mines are reached. Prank Condello is alive and in good condition after 666 feet underground for a week. Peter Munch is dead. Condello walked out with support and had water and air, while other men remain trapped and unresolved.
About 150 St Louis & Suburban Railway workers seized a car to drive to Belleville jail where Clark is held. Power was cut by manager C S Tlewitt, leaving the car stranded. Authorities limited crowds as tension rose after a motorman’s death and a conductor’s wounding.
