William V. Cleary town clerk of Shieverstraw and Democratic teacher in Rockland county was acquitted of first degree murder in the death of Eugene M. Newman die son in law. The verdict followed a courtroom drama with Cleary's friends applauding and his wife overcome by a nervous attack as the verdict was read.
