Three miles of hulls loaded with millions of bushels of grain sit inside Buffalo's breakwater in winter quarters. The cargo is valued at about 20 million dollars and will be moved at 500 to 1,000 carloads daily through winter, with the rest shipped by canal in spring.
Washington December 14 The senate admitted in evidence Boland testimony that his attorney Watson claimed Archbald was interested in settling the Boland claim against the Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad and would take one fourth of any amount over 5000. The vote was the first close division in the trial and drew focus from managers and Archbald's counsel.
Rebels again appeared below the border as Mexican rural forces under Colonel Emilio Kosterlitsky began patrolling the Southern Pacific railroad between Nogales Sonora and the Guaymas seaport. Advices from Hermosillo said rebels intended to cut the American owned rail line.

The special grand jury in Steubenville returns nine indictments for election law violations. Named defendants include Richard Gilson postmaster and Armog Gilson, plus John A Mansfield former common judge, William C. Frown prosecuting attorney elect, John G Belk nap probate elect, Henry F. Lawler justice of the peace, A F Blewer election officer, John Gilson, Collin H. Smith and Alfred Crippin. Charges cover campaign spending and false expense statements.
A major fire in Naples last night endangered a barge carrying 200 tons of purraffine from the Adriatic liner Adriatic. The fire spread to eleven nearby boats, destroying them but was contained by harbor firemen and passing warships. Estimated loss stands at 400000 dollars. In Denver on December 13 testimony linked J Cunningham former president of the First National bank of Rocky Ford to a personal note for 123560 dollars given to G A Harris cashier. Harris later died by suicide as the bank failed. Karliste of Pueblo testified he moved 100000 dollars from the bank to Rocky Ford to protect creditors.
Albany December 12 Attorney General Carmody demands restoration of 28746 dollars allegedly missing from the New York Monument commission accounts. A letter sent to General Sickles and General Anson G. McCook warns action to restore funds to the state treasury if the request is not met.
Mr. Carmody said supporters of General King argue the shortage began before his joining the commission, and that he should not be held responsible. The remark indicated the issue would receive due consideration by the body.
The Alaska Gastineau Mining Company holdings near Juneau Alaska were bought for 15 million dollars by C M MacNeill Spencer Penrose D J Jackling and Hayden Stone Co of Boston. An additional 700 thousand was subscribed to build a large low grade ore mill initial unit 6000 tons daily, expanding to 50000 tons as needed. The English syndicate long held the property and 50 million tons of ore is said to be in sight at 1500 per ton.
Chicago detectives found two trunks and two suitcases belonging to Mrs. Eroma Kraft of Cincinnati who was fatally beaten in a hotel on November 14. The storage warehouse tagged the property under Jon B. Cutters and a clerk identified John B. Koetters as the man pictured in police photos. In Athens Georgia J W Griffin and R H McCrary of Athens Banking and Trust Co pleaded guilty to banking law violations and were sentenced to five years on the chain gang after ten indictments accusing them of wrecking their bank.
D J Roberts was chosen president of the United States Express Company filling the vacancy created by the death of Thomas C Platt. Roberts is general manager of the Quebec Montreal and Southern railroad, a subsidiary of the Delaware and Hudson, with headquarters in Montreal.
Robert L. Clay, awaiting execution in Atlanta, confessed on the gallows to murdering his wife last May. He said he visited his estranged wife and, after kissing his baby, the child pushed him away, triggering the shooting.
George W Vallery was appointed receiver of the Colorado Midland Railway Company in Denver. The action, filed by Central Trust Company of New York, serves to protect bondholders under the first mortgage bonds as the trust company acts as trustee. Rumors indicated Rock Island System may soon acquire controlling interest in the embattled road.
Colorado Springs reports strong belief that Rock Island will buy controlling interest in Colorado Midland. Rudolph H. Miller a 56 year old former railroad mail clerk and preacher pleaded guilty in Lincoln Nebraska court to stealing letters from the U.S. mails. Miller had served twenty three years in the railroad mail service and faced charges arising from the thefts.
