Washington December 11 The Ways and Means Committee plans to finish tariff hearings by end of January. Democratic Leader Underwood chairing the committee says it has full information on all tariff schedules and will begin hearings January 6 to allow interested parties to present data. He expects to introduce a bill tomorrow to authorize extra expert help for the tariff revision.
Hearings by the House Rites Committee on the O Shaughnessy resolution investigated a proposed traffic agreement between the New York New Haven Hartford and Grand Trunk railroads. The inquiry touched on possible suspension of work on the Southern New England railway project as a result of the accord.

W D Warner of Aberdeen and R E Mason of Omaha testified in the government suit to dissolve the International Harvester Company. They accused the company of unfair tactics aimed at driving independent dealers out of business. Mason, a former agent for Plane Harvesting Company, said a 1902 meeting of general agents set the retail price of reapers and mowers.
Stephen Laporte testified at his trial in Tucson that a Salvation Army gathering in Chicago moved him to confess killing Walter Taylor a rancher from the area more than five years ago He said he later retracted the confession after returning to Tucson but reaffirmed the killing occurred in self defense.
Des Moines reports President elect Wilson invited Jerry Sullivan who ran as a Town Democrat for secretary of commerce and labor to a meeting in New York on his return from Bermuda. The letter was received today.
Spokane reports Mrs Katie Scott died in a hospital after drinking poisoned liquor. A second woman identified as Mrs Willian is in critical condition and not expected to recover. Police investigate the incident as a possible poisoning case.
Sh Rost who drank the liquor died today and Mrs Jennie Pose is not expected to recover. The liquor was drunk at Mrs Scott's home last Friday night. Police have not learned where it was procured nor what poison it contained. A post mortem examination of Mrs Kost's body will be made.
Landon December 12 The Daily Express revives the claim Crown Prince Alexis of Hinseia was wounded by a trusted attendant who proved to be a nihilist. The wound allegedly prevents the prince from continuing the line of succession and an heir-designate may be discussed in court circles.
Washington December 11. An amicable senate agreement on confirming President Taft's federal appointments emerged after informal talks with lenders. The plan proposes confirmation in states where senators are Democrats, with resistance avoided in Republican states. Democratic leaders reportedly would be satisfied if southern appointments are delayed.
Selection of New York as the movement center is seen as a victory for George W. Perkins amid opposition. Perkins faced resistance as supporters push for progressive reforms and a strong city base to coordinate efforts.
The Progressive party’s national executive committee chose New York as its permanent headquarters by a 32 to 12 vote amid opposition from several states. The body plans a Washington bureau, a Europe study commission, and funding via 500 a year subscriptions.

The judge ruled initial proceedings improper and papers defective. Campa, after release, said he was through with revolutions and would stay in Phoenix.
Sheridan report says Maxime Clayton refused Peter Jorgensen after years of pursuit. Jorgensen shot her in the heart and then killed himself after she declined marriage to support her mother and sisters. The couple, past childhood playmates, had recently reconnected in Wyoming.
