National Democratic Committee head Shathman M Combs spends two busy days in the capital meeting leaders and assessing sentiment. He holds discussions with party figures to map strategy and gauge current political currents.
Washington reports two days of talks among Democratic leaders and McCoombs about the Wilson inauguration. McCoombs says a public naming of the inaugural committee head will come tomorrow. Eldridge E B Jordan is favored for chairman with Walter Wicks as secretary and William Edwards as grand marshal.
A Copper Mountain snowslide wrecked seven buildings at the Great Northern Development Company camp near Cordova Alaska. Eleven men were buried, three confirmed dead and six others hopelessly missing. Bodies of John Hart James Mc Gaver and Frank Wahles recovered. The Copper mine is owned by Great Northern Development Company of New York. E F Gray manager is in New York.
Constantinople reports Selin Bey minister of marine Rechad Pasha minister of agriculture and Iman Nigmati Pasha ambassador to Germany named as plenipotentiaries to the peace conference set to open in London on December 13. The delegates will depart for London tomorrow.
In federal court, Albert Hillman testifies that James H. Duke urged price hikes to push costs to consumers. Hillman, a tobacco robber, says Duke said retailers should raise prices and warned if retailers won t, the Trust would. John E. Locker sues the American Tobacco Company for 366000 in damages.
Brighton Colo December 9 James Staton the alleged horse thief who with Frank L Smith self confessed slayer of Detective Jesse Stingley escaped from the jail here on November 27th has been captured at Clayton New Mexico according to a dispatch to Sheriff Schiog late today The sheriff expects to leave tonight to bring the prisoner back
Roy Jones of Santa Monica seeks letters of administration for the estate of his father John B. Jones once a U S senator from Nevada. John B. Jones died in Los Angeles leaving no will and an estate valued at about 2 million dollars.
James J. Rittenhouse testified in Archbald impeachment proceedings that the Erie railroad could have gained 25 000 from the Katydid culm dump rather than 4 500 offered to E J Williams. Williams allegedly sold an interest via Archbald and a later option for 25 000 was issued to Williams's associate Jones.
London reports a rumor that the Irish crown jewels stolen from Dublin Castle in 1907 were quietly replaced in their original places. The set includes the Order of St Patrick vestments, a diamond studded cross, and the jeweled sword valued at 250000 dollars. Sir Arthur Vickers refused to testify before a royal commission.

Two masked men robbed the Sunset Western express car between Maricopa and Taft, stealing twenty thousand dollars in gold consigned to Taft. Express messenger M. W. Hamby was injured but not seriously, regaining partial consciousness as the train arrived. Police and railroad men searched near Maricopa and Taft. no suspects identified yet.

He claimed Gustavo Madero met in New York with H Holy Pierce to offer 4,000,000 pesos for support, a proposal that was rejected by the revolution's leader. Impeachment motions against the lower house president failed as quorum issues stalled action.
Judge John T. D. Haffey, who arrived in Colorado in 1873, died in Per Norte at age 67. He served as Rio Grande County judge in earlier days and for the past thirty years as district clerk. He is survived by his widow.

Atchison Kansas December 9 preparations started for an investigation of the alleged confession made in San Francisco last week by John Derr a U S navy apprentice saying he killed William Barkis a wealthy recluse whose body was found near here three years ago The Barkis body will be exhumed for examination to determine if death was violent.
William EK Clements, who shot and killed merchant William Landis after Landis admitted killing Clements’ mother, was acquitted of murder by a California jury. Landis had claimed self defense and was released on bail, later shot dead. Clements admitted the later shooting, saying he killed the man who murdered his mother.
Chicago reports four former officers of the Empire Portland Cement Company warned by a federal grand jury on charges of defrauding cement dealers nationwide. The indictment claims $126,000 in losses from stock deals tied to promised cement bonuses. Defendants include Arthur G. Marshall and Albert H. Marshall among others. The firm, incorporated in 1910 with $2.2 million capital, allegedly claimed plants at Portsmouth and Menominee and failed to deliver cement.
Holly pound and Mack Mickey aged 14 and 9 were missing after Sunday school in Enterprise Colo. They were found in Syracuse Kan with a family friend who took them there in his wagon. The pair released the horse they had with them at the friend’s home.
