Germany clings to the promise that the gold backed Rentenmark will lift the economy from its depths. The new currency is circulated by the Rentenbank as the old mark is retired. Berlin citizens wait in line to exchange the old notes for the new issue.

Big Jack Firlek, alleged by postal authorities to be the brains of the criminal ring which staged two bit postoffice robberies, is today awaiting further action by law enforcement. Elrick was arrested in Los Angeles yesterday by post office inspectors, on information from Herbert Wilson, life termer in San Quentin, who participated in mail robberies in 1921.
District Judge Reed Holloman issued a temporary order stopping the State Finance Board from selling Liberty bonds on December 10. Receivers for Exchange Bank of Carrizozo seek to limit liability to 90 percent and recover the bonds with interest and costs. The state argues full proceeds can be used to indemnify state deposits, and questions of prorating losses among surety bonds and depositor securities are involved.
New York price movement shows January cotton at 88.78 and March at 4.15 a bale after the government ginning report. The drop marks a new low for the current market reaction and reflects a $14 to $18 decline from the season high.

Santa Rosa reports the state highway commission will hold a meeting Tuesday with E B Wheeler of the Phoenix federal road bureau to discuss federal aid project No 66 north of Anthony on the El Paso Las Cruces highway. Concrete paving reportedly lacks uniform thickness and may not meet specifications.
The Interstate Commerce Commission refused permission for the Staley system of electrified railways to construct a 1500 mile line from the Gulf of California into Mexico via Arizona New Mexico Colorado and Utah. Estimated cost about 131 million dollars. The applicant claimed 40 million dollars in stock subscriptions but would not disclose subscribers. The commission found earning capacity inadequate and existing service sufficient.
The United Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes and Railway Shop Laborers announced that strike ballots are being mailed today to all maintenance of way men in Canada. The action follows Canada’s railways failing to accept a five cent hourly wage increase. About 100000 workers are involved.

General Plutarco Calles renounces his presidential bid and offers to aid President Obregon against the De la Huerta-Sanchez rebels in Vera Cruz and Jaliscos. Obregon accepts and names Calles to lead the federal opposition as about 28,000 troops converge on Vera Cruz under Generals Amaro Alamazvan and Topete.
Rebel leaders at Vera Cruz announce intent to continue the fight until Obregon is ousted. Units move toward Jalapa with more than 4,000 men assembling from multiple directions and contacts with loyal forces. Dispatches mention multiple generals joining the rebellion across Jalisco Zacatecas Michoacan and other states.
After a full day of testimony the district court hearing on the $500,009 bond to build a new courthouse and jail in New Town was continued to Monday morning.
