Elgin police received a strange request when L. M. Amburn a 29 year old from Waterloo Indiana asked to be arrested saying he was a thief. He confessed to stealing $20 from the Waterloo Tailors union and part of the money he said belonged to a Sunday school class taught by his employer. Amburn was taken into custody.
Complete returns from nearly all precincts show George Alexander winning the mayoralty over socialist Job Harriman. Prohibition defeated by 31,691 to 87,344. Women voters heavily favored Alexander, with 95 percent of registered women voting and many precincts carried by the Alexander ticket.
In Los Angeles on December 6, the prohibition amendment failed by more than three to one with 83 111 against and 29 915 for. Attorney Nathan Newby of the Good Government league drafted the ordinance. This marks the first California women's vote on prohibition since gaining suffrage. Women's groups formed to push suffrage and educate new voters then opposed the ordinance.

In Tucker Utah last night several lamps exploded causing fires and near fatal injuries. C W Butterfield home caught fire while Mrs Butterfield escaped danger. EB Nason the local oil dealer ignited a lamp with a match revealing a fifty gallon coal oil tank contained a large gasoline percentage in the mixture.
Congress met at noon to consider miscellaneous bills including a pension measure for Civil War veterans and tariff plans. It notes invitations to J D Rockefeller and Rev PF Gates to appear before steel committee, calls for diplomatic recalls, sugar price probes, and Persian indictment uncertainty. The Sherwood pension bill aims at a daily pension for Union Civil War veterans, affecting about half a million men.
