Hankow China December 4 The followers of General Wu Pei Fu destroyed the Hankow Pekin railway bridge over the Yellow River reports indicate it was the longest bridge in China. Wu who was said to be fleeing from Henan arrived at Lingwangchow near the Honan Hupei border and plans to rest indefinitely.
Chicago December 4 The ship Maud once captained by Roald Amundsen will be sold to the highest bidder when it reaches San Francisco. Departing Seattle in 1922, the Maud plans to drift toward the North Pole after ice breaks next summer, Amundsen said. The vessel is powered by gasoline and only lacks lubricating oil, not fuel.
A first snow storm swept Colorado and neighboring states causing delayed trains and crippled telephone and telegraph service. By tonight commercial and press wires bore the main load, with indications of improving service as the storm abated.
Heavy Sierra storms delay air mail service with Reno to San Francisco flights halted. Eastbound mail planes from Reno failed to depart on schedule, disrupting daily airmail.

The Very Rev H R A Malley dean of St John's Episcopal cathedral suffered a scalp cut and bruises after his Ford coupe was struck by a truck driven by Julius Menieucet at Third Street and Lend Avenue. He walked to a doctor and kept a dinner engagement. The Ford lost a rear wheel and steering, while the truck was badly damaged.
George Riley alias Melvin Majors and George Marquette were convicted of robbery after a rapid case in Colorado Springs. Five witnesses linked them to the Mull en grocery store holdup on September 26, with ties to a Pueblo gunpoint robbery and a Denver police shooting. Jurors deliberated one hour across three ballots.

Washington December 4 a section proposing abolition of 39 land offices was struck from the interior department appropriation bill by a 68 to 47 vote. The list of affected offices includes locations from Montgomery Alabama to Lander Wyoming and Seattle to Visalia California.
The naval board of inquiry probing the October 26 explosion and fire on the cruiser Trenton, which killed thirteen, reports it cannot determine the cause. It states the blast was not due to flareback, electrical faults, faulty powder, or neglect of safety precautions.
Four armed men robbed the Sher ington branch of the Bank of Hoechelaga in Montreal this morning, held the manager at gunpoint and escaped with several hundred dollars in an automobile.

Evans remains hospitalized with a chest wound but shows some improvement though he stays shackled under guard.

Denver Colorado December 4 Patrolman Ben Baer lost the index finger on his right hand during a confrontation with two men in a truck stalled along the railroad right of way. One man leaped from the truck and fought Baer biting off the finger. Baer and one unidentified assailant were taken to the general hospital.
Chief Justice Taft names Charles Warren of Chicago as master to determine the facts in the New Mexico Texas boundary dispute recently argued before the U S Supreme Court. Warren, former assistant attorney general, will conduct the inquiry.
Washington report shows subscriptions to the new treasury six term bond issue of 206 million dollars opening yesterday exceeded half a billion by today. Acting Secretary Wilson announced that the offering for further cash sale will be withdrawn at the close of business tonight.
The heating system contract for Bernalillo county's new courthouse was let to Duke City Plumbing for 12 980.78 with Strumatist Engineering at 12 989 and W. T. Cooper at 13 181. Elevator work goes to Otis at 14 000. The award, opened by county commissioners, uses the 500 000 bond issue with little margin.
London reports say the British cabinet ministers are under special police guard after information from Viscount Allenby’s headquarters that a plot to assassinate prominent government members has been uncovered. Secretary of the Interior set December 18 as the hearing date for the Verde River Irrigation and Power District in Arizona to seek an extension of its permit.
