At the forty fifth annual convention of the national American Suffrage association in Washington the adoption of a new constitution and a raised budget were approved. Dr Anna Howard Shaw was re elected president for the eighth term and speakers urged a constitutional amendment without delay. Mia Mina Finger aged 87 died in Santa Barbara California. She was reputedly the only woman in the United States pensioned for personal services during the Mexican War. Finger ministered to the sick and injured while her husband served as a U S soldier. The government awarded her a medal at the 1878 Continental Exposition.
