The contest pits socialist candidate Job Harriman against incumbent Mayor George Alexander amid McNamara dynamiting case fallout and a threat of unrest. The naval collier Sterling was rammed at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay by the American freighter Dorothy. Commander Captain Keen steered toward Cape Henry to save his fifty crewmen as the ship sank. The Dorothy sustained no serious damage.
Pittsburg December 3 Captain E A Awaney and four crewmen died when the towboat Diamond exploded its boilers while tied off Avalon six miles south. Five others injured two fatally. The boat sank in the Ohio river with wreckage striking Avalon houses and the Pennsylvania railroad station.
From injuries received November 20 while riding as mechanician in the racing car in which Dr. Jay McNaw was thrown and killed, H. F. Maxwell of Jacksonville Florida died at a local hospital today.
