Police report no sound from the closely guarded Posson Gus mine for a full day, bolstering officers confidence in the aftermath. The incident centers on Lopez and Ghota with no further details released.
In the Utah Apex mine near Hingham Utah desperado Rafael Lopes is trapped inside as gas and smudge operations fill the lower levels. Deputies and sheriffs guard the mine while miners endure fumes and fear. A deputy funeral was held for Tom Mandrich amid tensions between Mexican and Hungarian workers.
Washington December 2 Democrats in the Senate pressed the administration currency bill while Republicans blocked immediate long sessions. A Kern proposal for thirteen hour days was defeated as Norris sought shorter hours. The Kern resolution moved to tomorrow with no concerted GOP obstruction planned.
