Governor Pinchot submits a three point settlement to miners and operators in Harrisburg aiming to stop the impending strike. The plan calls for a 10 percent wage increase starting September 1, eight hour day standard for all workers, and full union recognition by operators with union representation at pay time.
A Gallup delegation of seven Kiwanis members spoke at the local club urging Albuquerque cooperation for the Intertribal Indian Ceremonial to be held next month. Speakers highlighted benefits to Albuquerque and New Mexico, including joint advertising with Santa Fe Fiesta and regional tourism.
Denver New Mexico forecast shows unsettled Thursday and Friday with thunder showers in northern areas and possible southern portions. Warmer in the north and cooler in the south Thursday. Arizona expects fair conditions in the extreme west with local showers in central areas and somewhat cooler Thursday.

Readville Massachusetts August 29. Weather again forces postponement of all events for the second day of Grand Circuit racing at Readville track. One heat in each of four events was completed before postponement.
Miss Inex Talbot of Desplaines Illinois leaped onto the tracks to save a stray dog as a Chicago bound train neared. She pushed the animal off the rails but was struck by the engine and left unconscious with cuts, bruises, and internal injuries.
New York reports a nine year old boy Frank Stravel and his Newfound land dog Prince on a walk at Coney Island when Prince stepped on tracks. Stravel pushed Prince to safety but was hit by a truck, fracturing his skull. He likely will die at Coney Island hospital.
Minneapolis Aug 29 Two distinguished foreign jurists and a US Supreme Court member headlined the American Bar Association convention opening day. Lord Birkenhead Dr J S Zebalios Pierce Putman associate justice spoke at sessions with John W Davis presiding. The British constitution topic and ethics report by Taft framed the program as Hughes set for tomorrow speech.

The state highway engineer will open bids on September 7 for installing a new fiber on the Barelas bridge, located just south of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
President Coolidge will press a button on August 11 to start a modern Pony Express from St. Joseph Missouri to San Francisco. The finish is at Tanforan on September 9 with 247 horses and 40 riders aiming to beat the 1860s record of seven days and 21 hours across 2200 miles.
Chairman John York of the San Miguel county board of education asked the state school auditor to strike from the county budget an allowance to buy desks. The board reported 360 desks already bought and in storage, dating back several years.
New York Aug 29 Princess Lwoff Paringhy famed Wynegarian portrait painter and former Kaiser Wilhelm protégé died soon after a deputy sheriff entered her home to seize rare art objects and furniture to satisfy a $212,000 judgment held by Ludwig Nelson. A guard remained outside as the law moved to attach the assets following her death.
Athens reports Italian Foreign Minister Montagna expressed regret over the killing of five Italians connected with a Greco Albanian boundary dispute. Italy plans to send a warship and police experts to Janina area to conduct an inquiry while insisting the crime was political and not Greek in origin. Premier Gonatas said Albanian assassins were responsible and anticipated no harm to Greece Italy ties.
Rome reports Italy demands a formal apology from Greece and a 60 million franc indemnity for the assassination of five Italian members of a Greece Albania boundary mission in Janina Albania. Rome insists on full honors to the Italian fleet at Piraeus and a five day deadline for payment and inquiry.
Norfolk Va August 26 Plans for a tuberculosis hospital costing about 12500000 to honor war mothers and other women who aided the world war were approved at the Veterans of Foreign Wars annual encampment. A committee will be named to carry out the project presented by J J Toulouse commander of the New Mexico department and the hospital would serve hundreds of patients with no site named yet.
Robert L Cooper district engineer of the state highway commission reports federal aid road projects in New Mexico are advancing. He notes 16 miles on the Loa Tunas to San Fidel stretch remain unaccepted while most of the Los Sainas to Gallup route is under contract. The Willard to Leey segment is done and open to traffic with detours removed.

Detroit officials report salary hikes totaling over 266 600 dollars yearly for officers and general offices staff of the municipally owned street railway. Opposing the moves city controller William Navel and acting mayor John Lodge may block the payroll. Increases range from 16 to 33 percent for superintendents and staff, with retroactive pay from July 1 raising expenses and fares on company lines to six cents a ride.

Investigators note four wholesale purchases between mine and retailer with margins from twenty cents to 1.756 dollars per ton and warn of renewed price spikes if mining stops. The commission says lack of regulatory power leaves margins to retailer and consumer willingness to pay.
