President Roosevelt cites court rulings he says threaten the balance of government and warns that allowing them to stand would be a serious menace to American government and constitutional order.
Theodore Roosevelt condemned U S Supreme Court decisions as contravening democracy in a Denver speech before the Colorado legislature. He warned if such rulings persist they could endanger popular government and urged a national system balancing federal and state power. He praised truthful press while denouncing demagogues and dishonest officials.
In Denver on August 29 at the Denver Press club lunch, Col Roosevelt recalled Red River Valley days and buffalo herds. He noted improvements in range life over 25 years, praising greater comfort, cleanliness, and opportunities, while affirming the enduring hard work and manliness of range men and pride in the future of the west.
