Forty Missouri mob tarred and whipped women near Alexandria

Reported in Morning Journal Life notes Mrs Brown and her daughter Maggie were tarred and feathered near Keokuk and Alexandria Missouri. They were driven out of Keokuk and later subjected to a brutal beating and horsewhipping by a mob of about forty men before being set adrift on the Mississippi.

Auto Crushed by Speeding Locomotive in St Louis

A party of five or more residents of St Louis died when their car was struck by a locomotive near Creve Coeur lake. Theodore Witte and his brother were killed instantly. Theodore Witte Jr survived briefly, with others crushed in the wreckage.

Mad Mother Feeds Children With Poison Deadly Act

In Joseph Missouri on August 2 a 41 year old Mere Carrie Sanders of Florence Addition attacked five of her children with morphine during a fit of insanity. A neighbor interrupted the attempt and Sanders then attempted suicide by poison and cutting her throat. Weldon Sanders aged five died. the other children aged two to ten survived with medical care.
