New York reports a boiler explosion on the Hudson River steamer Riverdale near Fourteenth Street. The vessel capsized within minutes, with dozens injured and many feared dead. Tugs, ambulances, and rescue crews responded as yachts of Jay Gould and F P Jaffery aided in recovery. Further: Missouri and Gallatin reports update on the James and Ford cases with witness testimony and indictments.

In Battle Mountain at Klack Creek Edward Nottingham and Willem Maddigan fought after a quarrel over a woman. Nottingham shot Maddigan twice in the side and then fired more shots as Maddigan fell, killing him. Nottingham was arrested as the coroner’s inquest awaited verdict.
Chicago report from Janesville Wisconsin notes a furious hailstorm last night nearly wrecked Rock County's entire tobacco crop with damages estimated at substantial losses.
In Indianapolis on August 25 Jacob Aldenberger and Jacob Mush faced a Justice Court case. After a meeting on the street around 1 o clock Aldenberger fired a pistol killing Bush instantly then shot Samuel Campbell fatally as he fled. He then shot himself dead. The Campbell shooting appears accidental and not connected to the earlier quarrel.
Coroner's jury charges Willie LeRoy with Skerrett murder. LeRoy to be examined at police court tomorrow. Washington dispatch notes Army to swap stations this fall. Twenty First infantry to move from Vancouver to the lakes and Tenth infantry to Fort Vancouver.
Postal service on the Northern Pacific is ordered to run between Missoula and Melons, effective the second prox. The change creates continuous railroad passenger service from St. Paul to Portland, a 1920 mile route.
Aug 25 a conductor on the C A tailround fled an arrest after a private detective followed him. The manager said several conductors were discharged and detectives kept some under surveillance amid the investigation.
The organization of the Trans Continental Storage and Shipping company in Chicago is finalized to cooperate with the Texas Continental Bosespeviation company's refrigerator line of the Huntington system. International and Great Northern refused agreement, but the law’s enforcement potential prompted settlement. The issue draws railmen’s calls to broader use of the law. Also reports forestry fire near Harbor Maine and a crime incident in Denver involving Ida Nelson’s missing savings after a man named Hinkle allegedly robbed her.
