In New York 2600 longshoremen quit work in a sudden walkout over Irish questions. Women pickets march outside the White Star pier as ships including Olympic and Aquitania face loading disruptions. The strike spreads to British lines with crews refusing to unload until Terence MacSweeney and Archbishop Mannix are treated.

Arizona superintendent C O Case says no further temporary teaching certificates will be issued by the public schools. The state board of education met and agreed to fill about 65 vacancies through a special examination likely in September in Yavapai Graham Pinal Pima and Apache counties.
Democrats in New Mexico after reviewing their Las Vegas ticket say the governor candidate Richard H. Hanna congress nominee Antonio Lucero and supreme bench nominee Harry J. Patton are proven vote getters. Lucero has twice won secretary of state races. Hanna, felled by a 1918 landslide, led the ticket previously. Patton defeated Claney for attorney general in 1916 and beat Brice for the supreme bench nomination. Other strong contenders include Hal Kerr for lands and HK. & Tipton for superintendent.
The estate of actor Nat C. Goodwin was declared insolvent when administrator Nathaniel Goodwin filed an accounting. Assets total 6595 dollars while liabilities exceed 15000 dollars with debts from Paris millinery shops New York tailors and summer resort hotels. Much of Goodwins mining stock is worthless.
Puertillo New Mexico reports a well spudded in on section 26 township 4% north range 5 west. The drill is operating continuously day and night.
Washington August 27 representatives of the American Railway Express company urged the Interstate Commerce Commission to grant a further 15 percent express rate rise to cover higher wages. Examiners planned to submit the case to the commission with no delay. decision unlikely before September 1 when a 12 percent rise already goes into effect. L. R. Gwyn and Charles A. Lutz urged the increase amid a reported 42 million dollar wage bill, while H. T. Moore urged limiting to 10 percent citing back pay and rising business.
Cloud bursts last night washed out sixteen miles of track and several bridges between Canon City and Salida, severely muddling railroad traffic. Trains rerouted to Denver or other lines. many journalists remained in Pueblo.

Chicago August 27 Congressman Fred A Britten of Illinois was subpoenaed by the Senate campaign investigating committee to appear Monday with proof supporting his charge that 37600 dollars allocated by Great Britain for embassy entertainment in Washington was diverted to the Democratic Party committee. Britten said he would gladly furnish evidence.
Captain FE M Robison veteran and Republican senatorial candidate left Flagstaff for the officers school at Fort Leavenworth Kansas. He remains active in the race and would return to sign for the general election if nominated.
In New York on August 27 Charles M Schwab announced a two cycle internal combustion engine suited for ships and stationary use. The engine reportedly stems from American ingenuity and has undergone a successful trial on an ore carrier owned by Bethlehem Steel.

He says unbounded enthusiasm for helping others guides his work and his wish to lead an insurance company. He recalls meeting his wife in Albuquerque and his boyhood aim to teach. He would endow hospitals with four million dollars and dreams of becoming a company president.
