Mexican and American forces maneuver along the border as rebels raid a ranch near Hachita and rail bridges on the Northwestern line burn. Reports place Pascual Orozco and relatives across the region while federal troops pursue bands near Ojiniga and Juarez.
El Paso August 27 Emilio Kosterlitzky commander of the rural police of all Mexico says Sonora rebels overwhelm local forces with 800 insurgents along the Southern Pacific south of Magdalena He plans to form a new unit from old rurales and ex insurrectos to mop up rebels while noting federal forces in Sonora and Sinaloa are inadequate Colonel Antonio Rojas leads the rebel band which controls rail links to the US border.
General Len Tien Wei arrives in Washington to press U S recognition of the Chinese republic and will proceed to Beverly Massachusetts to meet with President Taft.
Corporal Cedric M Long of the Fifth Regiment Massachusetts wins the annual rifle tournament at Seagirt New Jersey scoring 235 points to defeat over a hundred rivals including top military marksmen. He earns the title a gold medal cash prize and will receive an autograph letter from Taft for winning the Presidents match.
In Havana a Cuban newspaper reporter named Mesa assaulted Hugh Gibson the American chargé d affaires as he entered a hotel to dine. Edward Bell dragged the assailant away. Chancellor Patterson and Secretary of State Sener Sanguilly expressed official regret. The attacker was jailed pending a formal complaint. Gibson has served since July 1911 and had been barred from the legation.
Hugh Reilly, an American contractor, received 57,400 from the Cuban government as final settlement for the Clenfugos waterworks contract after a four hour conference with Hugh S. Gibson and Cuban cabinet members.

London Aug 27 The doors of Congress hall closed on General William Booth lying in state leaving a vast crowd outside expressions of disappointment. Booths body was moved to Olympic hall for a memorial Thursday. Secretary Phillips and Major George Squick will attend from the American embassy. Lt Colonel Richardson will serve as pallbearer for the Salvation Army.
