Miss Emma J. Hayes of Philadelphia was brought back to the U S from Germany by order of the imperial government after being detained seven weeks in an asylum at Frankfort. She appeared to be in full possession of her faculties upon arrival.
Authorities released Miss Hays after she proved American citizenship. She was confined with little explanation and the Hamburg American liner, which brought her back, provided only orders to return her. The trunk was surrendered after federal orders.
Emma J. Hays a Philadelphia school teacher describes being abducted after sailing to Hamburg on the Pennsyl vania and confined in an asylum for seven weeks. She says she protested in broken German but was deemed mentally unfit and kept under surveillance during her alleged voyage home.
Justice Goff of the New York State Supreme Court declares that a closed shop is a conspiracy in restraint of trade. About fifty thousand cloak makers protesting in cities march under banners, while the injunction targets violence and intimidation. The decision cites an appeals court ruling about employers who conspire to force union membership, applying the rule to workers as well. Final settlement of the tentative agreement between strikers and manufacturers is expected soon.
Four Republicans were seated as delegates at a Democratic county convention under California's first direct primary law. Names appeared in districts with no Democratic nominees and the credentials committee found no provision in the law. One delegate, J. R. Callahan, is a delegate to the Socialist convention and signaled he would not act. The Republicans are Lincoln-Roosevelt leaguers.
In Columbus Ohio on Jefferson avenue near the barracks a Leon ard avenue street car ran over a half pound stick of dynamite but it did not explode. Police reported a dozen shooting incidents at or from street cars tonight but no injuries occurred.
Charles Clark shot dead by mounted policeman Beal after resisting arrest at Mogollon saloon. The confrontation occurred on tracks near the town, with Beal firing in self defense. Clark’s death follows a reported disturbance and warrants.

Dr Hewley H Crippen and his typist Miss Ethel Clute Leneve arrived at Bow Street from Liverpool and were formally charged with the disappearance of Crippen's actress wife Belle Elmore. The trio was placed in custody after arrival at Mous ton Station and Bow Street police court.
Timothy Woodruff, former Adirondack land owner and president of the state forest preserve board, calls for a public hearing on Adirondack land deals. He notes Kamp El Kur of 1,030 acres sold for 212000 while adjacent state lands were bought for 167000 and accuses unequal pricing, urging scrutiny of all Adirondack matters linked to his name.
