Paris Matin urges John D. Rockefeller to fund a negotiated indemnity to Japan to end the Russo Japanese War. Reports from Portemouth and New York detail Rockefeller being pressed as a mediator while Roosevelt presses for peace and Sakhalin terms are debated.
In Cleveland on August 26, Mr. Rockefeller refused to issue a statement regarding a cable received at his Martin residence in Forest Hill this evening.

New York April 26 J E Madden a Kentucky turfman and owner of fast halves entered in the futurity was convicted of criminal contempt of court. He was fined 266 and sentenced to thirty days in the Raymond street jail Brooklyn for ignoring a subpoena of the New York supreme court. Madden was ordered to appear before a commissioner in Saratoga during the racing season to be questioned in his wife's divorce suit but did not respond.
