Stimulation of Grain Movement Planned by ICC

The Interstate Commerce Commission ordered adjusted grain freight rates from Lake Erie ports to the Atlantic to ease car shortages. Rates rise up to 30 percent for domestic and 26 percent for export shipments, instead of 40 percent. Effective no later than September 1, the move aims to shift grain from Buffalo Erie and Portage to the seaboard, reducing all rail costs by about three cents per hundred pounds and freeing cars at Lakes Superior and Michigan ports.
