A government drive to curb price gouging and control fuel distribution is proposed as senators back walkouts and unite against profiteers. The move aims to secure supplies and protect consumers amid market volatility.
Washington August 24 The Senate considers measures to curb profiteering and regulate coal with a federal agency to distribute coal. Secretary Hoover says bituminous production will jump to 7 million tons next week but rail strikes threaten movement. He warns the anthracite market is acute and suggests substitutes for winter use.
Ek Macomber, the American arseman, paid a record 150000 francs plus 17 percent government tax for the yearling son of Sardanaple, winner of the 1914 grand prix. The total reached 200000 francs with tax. King Alfonso of Spain previously held the record with 200 francs for Ogresse, daughter of rwood, as others abstained.
Atlanta mourns Dr. Lee Clark a 54 year old physician famed for medical research and glandular treatments for defective children. He died at home following a stroke six weeks ago.

Delegates were instructed to vote as a unit.
In Gallup McKinley County Democratic Convention elected 44 delegates to the Albuquerque state convention on August 31. Delegates were instructed to support A. T. Hannett for the governor nomination, with Hannett promising to campaign vigorously if nominated. The event marked the largest county convention yet and anticipated road representation at the state gathering.
Chicago Aug 24 George Sisler Saint Louis star extended his batting lead by four hits in six trips raising his average from .415 to .418. Ty Cobb of Detroit produced a double and a triple in four at bats but could not close the gap. The Georgia Peach remains in second place with a .4100 average.

Sun Yat Sen outlines a plan to have the United States take over China's debts to Europe on a refinancing basis as a step toward fiscal solvency and reunification. He says China must secure assurances from the United States and other powers for refunding matured debts and foreign administration during reorganization.

In Toche steer New York Aug 24 about 50 spectators watched two women Hileen Olossen 35 and Sadie J Palmer 22 fight for a man’s affection. Palmer delivered the first blow jaw right. Olossen countered with an uppercut injuring Palmer’s hand. Olossen later knocked Palmer unconscious with a chin blow. Both women were arrested and fined $10 each in city court.

Omaha Neb August 24 temporary walkout of switchmen engineers and firemen in Union Pacific railroad yards at Grane Island Neb has been settled and workers returned to duty with no passenger traffic disruption officials say.
