American forces are projected to number four million in France by next summer as plans aim to drive Germany toward defeat and end the war. General orders indicate renewed mobilization and sustained effort overseas.
General March stated that over 一 hundred thousand American soldiers have sailed for Europe and predicted 4,000,000 Americans could be in France by mid next summer to aid Allied campaigns. He cited frontline reports ofCaptured guns and batteries and praised American officers and troops for proven battle performance. He noted French advances on the Novoen front and British gains, with Pershing's army command awaiting completion.
Amsterdam August 24 a bulletin from physicians attending the German empress at Wilhelmshohe says she is suffering nervous depression and heart troubles aggravated by overstrain. The empress must keep quiet for now but health has improved with care and hope for restoration.
The War Department announced that plans to convert tent camps where National Guard troops were mobilized into permanent cantonments with wooden buildings have been abandoned. The decision ends efforts to establish lasting military housing at the sites.

Owensboro August 24 The Green River Distilling plant burned tonight destroying the entire plant and 43000 barrels of whiskey. Loss estimated over 2 million dollars with government tax loss around 6750000 dollars. Fire started in trash near the distillery and flames rose hundreds of feet as burning whiskey spilt into ditches and the Ohio River.

Forest Ranger Ralph Millenteendt was killed in an ambush at Huckeye draw north of Paradox Vale while pursuing a suspected army deserter. Four Mexicans are believed to have fired the fatal shot as posses search from Paradox Moab Monticello and La Salle Utah. Millenteendt resided in Moab.
