Sheriff Owen pledges to capture the brutal killer Emilio at any cost, despite difficulties, in a relentless pursuit across Lincoln County. The strong language signals a high-stakes manhunt and firm resolve from local authorities.
Special correspondence reports a brutal 1905 murder in which Rosario Emilio lured Antonio Carrillo de Mirabel into a mountainside draw and shot her twice with a Winchester. Emilio was captured briefly, indicted, and jailed in Lincoln County as public fury rose. Sheriff Owen vowed to capture him dead or alive.
In Lincoln County, Joseph F Bonham faced trial for murder with counsel including George W Prichard George H B Barber and Richmond P Barnes. The jury found him guilty in minutes after a weeklong defense. The death sentence was stayed by clemency respite and relocation plans were prepared.
Reports recount Emilitio and accomplice Gomez escaping custody around two or three o clock and vanishing without trace. The grand jury found no collusion by Sheriff Owen. Gomez likely fled to Mexico while Emilitio’s likeness circulates in detective circles.
In New York on August 23 the Commercial Telegraphers' Union announced that striking operators without funds may apply to the union finance committee for aid. Western Union will retain all current workers to fill vacancies created by the strike, and displaced operators will not be readmitted.

Topeka Aug. 23 Frank Grattan state attorney for the state board of railway commissioners issued a statement backing Governor Hoch's call for a special legislative session to enact a two cent rate law to apply to all railroads in Kansas.
In Coaldale Pennsylvania on August 23 two men Frank Peknolas and Samuel Ambrose were fatally stabbed by several assailants on Hidge Street. Peknolas throat cut and Ambrose stabbed through the heart. Robbery denied. Police point to the Black Hand activity among local Italians as the motive.

Abilene Kansas August 23 Former United States Senator John R Burton of Abilene and L Houser and J W Vetter who run the business office of the Topeka Daily Capitol bought the Abilene Clarion. The paper will be made a daily and Mr Burton will have editorial charge.
New York reports the Treasury moved currency to the west for crop movement and interior needs. Ten days ago half a million dollars went to Chicago and another half million to San Francisco as a substantial transfer by the sub-treasury.
U S authorities report Raisuli crushed a large Moroccan force aimed at freeing Sir Harry MacLean. The expedition hoped to recover the British officer and confront Raisuli near the strategic Moorish city of Deagar two days from Tangier.

Albany August 23 Governor Hughes commuted the sentence of Benjamin Hahn of Syracuse who was convicted in Onondaga county in November 1880 for burglary and a fault and sentenced to 70 years. He has served nearly 27 years of actual time and is now 55 years old. If released now he may be able to earn his living.

Four hundred wagon drivers halted meat deliveries in New York after an abrupt strike at packing houses. Workers kept internal operations going while firms planned to import strike breakers as talks over the expired contract and arbitration clause stalled.

A Louisville and Nashville line wreck on the Birmingham Mineral road near Anger and Johns Wour left four dead and about four dozen injured. Rail spreading is suspected as the cause, but names of victims were unavailable at press time.
News from New York reports that Joan Gaynor the Syracuse contractor convicted in the Savannah harbor work fraud case is critically ill and likely to die if not released from jail. Advocates in New York are weighing an appeal to federal authorities for bail during illness.
A Dallas dispatch reports the Texas attorney general filed one of the state's major anti trust suits in Austin against the International Harvester Company of Wisconsin. The petition claims Texas anti trust law violations and seeks penalties over a million dollars. It also alleges an unlawful combination with McCormick Harvester and Machinery Glessner & Co Minneapolis Harvester D M Osborne and Co and Aultman Taylor Manufacturing.
La Crosse Wisconsin August 23 One life lost and three others narrowly escaped as fire destroyed the home of Mrs Mary Kirster Firemen saved Mrs Kirster and four children but her eldest son Fred aged 12 could not be rescued and died before bystanders including his mother An eyewitness crowd watched in horror as he perished rather than jump to safety.
