Report notes extensive flood damage across Phoenia Arizona with about 700 houses affected. Early estimates from local newspaper men indicate four hundred homes saw water intrusion. The check reveals widespread property impact from the event.
Phoenix suffered widespread flood damage with about seven hundred houses submerged and water entering 400 first story rooms. City damage, excluding the state capitol, estimated at $100000. irrigation canals by Salt River valley system reported breaks and repairs planned within two weeks. Pumps battled water in the capitol basement as the flood waned.
Clara Smith Hamon, recently acquitted in Ardmore Okla, wed motion picture director John W. Gorman in Los Angeles. After securing a marriage license they were married by Rev M Howard Fagan at Wilshire Boulevard Christian Church. The couple will reside in Los Angeles and Mrs. Gorman has been working on a film under his direction since last April.
J. D. Wannamaker of the American Cotton Association accused the Federal Reserve Board of cynical and criminal policy manipulating prices and currency. He urged a reformed board with district representatives, lower rediscount rates, and immediate action to relieve agricultural producers from deflated dollars and mounting debt.
Chicago August 22 Mrs Mary Demmer released after habeas corpus review found no evidence to hold her in connection with the deaths of Fred Kolze and Mrs Kolze and Fred Demmer husband of Mary Demmer Kolze was housekeeper for Kolze and the case involved a three death inquiry with no charges pending against Demmer.
On the first day of the John Bailey murder trial in Mount Vernon Kentucky deputies and soldiers screened all entering the courtroom including women. Both sides asked for continuances for absent witnesses and five orders were issued to secure key testimony. Sheriff Walker was told to seize twelve witnesses and a $500 bond was forfeited for Walter Jackson of Corbin.

Mexico City August 22. The El Universal reports U S oil company heads will fly to Mexico City Wednesday for talks with government officials aimed at an amicable settlement of petroleum questions. The meeting has State Department approval, sources say.
Washington reports American oil officials plan to travel to Mexico City to discuss the newly imposed petroleum export tax. The State Department favors a bilateral settlement and a future commerce treaty, with Walter Teagle of Standard Oil of New Jersey leading the delegation.
The Flagstaff trial of Harry Nash for the murder of Martin H. Schwab was interrupted as the defense announced a Kansas witness who will claim Schwab had a revolver before the shooting. The defense contends Nash acted in self defense. the state says Schwab was armed. Final arguments delayed while the witness is brought in.
Neenah Wisconsin August 22 W Z Stuart 60 a wealthy paper manufacturer and president of the Neenah Paper Company died at his home yesterday after suffering a paralytic stroke authorities reported his death as sudden and expected to be mourned by business leaders in the community.
The administration railroad funding measure clears the House by 214 to 123 and advances to the Senate after four hours of debate. Webster tried to strike the labor inefficiency clause, but the amendment failed 165 to 17. Rayburn urged retaining the provision amid arguments over federal control and future claims.
In Cleveland on August 22 Mary Soltis, 26, was arrested for murder after allegedly smothering her week old child with bedclothes to spare it a life of poverty. Police say the mother admitted the act as she cited lack of money and her husband leaving to find work.
One hundred thousand dollars collected by the American Red Cross for soldier relief was turned over to the American Legion to help locate former service members entitled to aid but not receiving it. Thomas of Los Angeles, a cattle buyer for a large packers firm, died in Nogales Arizona after five days of illness. His widow arrived three hours after his death.
