At Estes Park village near Palliver Lodge Colorado on August 22 Mrs Kimmelshue wife of Hey Kimmelshue of Monmouth Piineis Was fatally injured and their son Kiobert 11 and Stinson 17 were killed instantly. Miss Margaret Woolf of Monmouth was severely injured and reported in critical condition. Mr Kimmelshue the driver was uninjured.

Two men described as enemy aliens were arrested near Anthon, New Mexico, and placed in the federal section of the county jail for investigation. They claimed to be from Cleveland, Ohio, and sought directions to Mexico, while authorities label them Austrians.
British and Allied troops push along the region south of Arras under heavy bombardment from the Haig line as a resolute breakthrough continues. Crumbling enemy lines yield ground amid ongoing artillery and infantry assaults.

Washington Aug 22 Members of the Jewish Orthodox church object to military service registration. Marshals Crowder says Jewish youths will not be required to register next Monday with others who have turned 21 since June 6. Their registration will be accepted by local boards on Monday. President Wilson has approved an amendment allowing adherents of religious sects observing Saturday as the Sabbath to register on the 26th.
Mrs. Alice De Groff, former owner of the Orw orff and Bheldeen hotels and a prominent El Paso figure, left for Washington to participate in picketing at the White House. She pledged to join the line if possible and has long been a pioneer in women’s suffrage, with ties to Tucson.
