London August 22 Reuters Athens reports M Venizelos accepted the post of premier of Greece after a conference with King Constantine. He will present a list of ministers and take the oath tomorrow. Venizelos also to head the foreign affairs ministry as Greece celebrates his return.
The district court in Boulder Colorado begins the trial of BE L Doyle W T Hickey Janek Cassidy John O Connor and Joe Potestlo on charges linked to the 1914 Hecla mine battle that killed Pit Staneff during the miners strike. The case stems from a mass indictment and may be delayed by a motion to separate counts.
The British steamer Coober, a 3060 ton vessel built in 1912 and owned by London and Northern Steamship, was sunk by a submarine. The captain and crew landed safely. the ship had sailed from Karachi in June and was reported near Gibraltar.
London reports two British steamers met disaster as the Windsor 6055 ton vessel sank and the William Dawson 284 ton steamer blew up. Five sailors from the Daw son's crew are missing while the Windsor crew was saved.
