In a Senate speech Senator Penrose of Pennsylvania admitted receiving a $25,000 certificate of deposit from John D. Archbold in 1904 as part of a $125,000 Archbold contribution to the Republican national campaign fund. He accused William Flinn of offering $1.6 to $2 million for his Senate bid and charged ongoing political pressure and forged letters as part of attacks against him.
Former State Senator William Flinn, a Roosevelt forces leader in the state, tonight refused to discuss the charges made in the senate.
Residents of Juarez cheer as federal forces retake city hall with Madero loyalists in charge. Shouts praising Orozco last month contrasted with current support for the new authorities. Local streets fill with celebration and relief as the change brings restored order.

News from Managua reports the liberal insurgents defeated the federal garrison at Leon on August 11. About 500 soldiers were trapped and nearly all were killed, with only seventy surviving. The fortress fell and the insurgents, led by General Zeledon, now control Leon. General Mena’s illness left command to the liberals.
Prime steers advanced again in Chicago trading to 10.60 per hundredweight after last week’s 10.50 top. High grade cattle have climbed for weeks with expectations of higher yard prices. Sheep, by contrast, remain cheaper with abundant mutton as prices rose 10 cents to a top 4.35.

Salt Lake City Aug 21 Half the delegates to the tenth annual meeting of the Institute of Banking were still on trains when President Raymond Ki Cox called the convention to order. About 1000 people filled the crowd to hear welcomes and responses as the institute continues its study of scientific banking.
Lamar Colorado aviator George Thompson died after his plane the Mathewson Flyer turned turtle during an exhibition flight at the fair grounds. Thompson waved to the crowd before the crash and was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
George Thompson, twenty four, died at Lamar when his aeroplane turned turtle. He had built the machine for the Mathewson Aeroplane Company of Denver, which he organized and served as secretary for. His body will be brought to Denver for burial.
A. C. Trumbo of Muskogee Oklahoma, president of the Trans Mississipp i congress, said producers lose 254 million dollars yearly to European rivals due to transport costs. He noted American farm shipping costs about 25 cents per mile per ton versus Europe under 10 cents. He said road improvements and a blue sky law plan will be key topics at the Salt Lake City congress next week, with fire waste also to be considered.
Morning Journal Special League dispatch reports District Attorney Whitman offered a 6000 reward for fugitives linked to the Get the Blood and Louie gang murders of Herman Rosemthal. Sam Schepps testified that Becker claimed he could control Commissioner Waldo and warned Rose not to surrender.
Washington August 21 The House passed the executive legislative and judicial bill over Taft’s veto by 154 to 53. The Senate vote failed 34 to 28 but the House amended the bill to provide a continuing appropriation for the commerce court until March 4 1913. The measure dies with the Senate appropriation committee but adjournment nears as leaders expect a final compromise and possible signature.
