President Roosevelt resumes his pledge to curb predatory wealth continuing his push for regulation of trusts and interstate transportation firms. He speaks at the Cornerstone Laying of the Pilgrim’s Memorial Monument in Massachusetts reiterating administration policy.
At Provincetown Massachusetts on August twentieth President Roosevelt spoke at the Pilgrim monument cornerstone ceremony. He urged stronger federal regulation of interstate corporations, emphasized national sovereignty and the need to curb large combines, and argued for new agencies to oversee modern business.
Local town watches as a strike sparks violence in Ash Fork. Reports describe an outbreak of mutiny and clashes amid disputed labor actions, with tensions rising in the Arizona junction town.
Ash Fork Arizona saw the first lawlessness of the telegraphers strike as strikers or supporters fired at the Postal station wounding no one. Governor Kibby replied with orders to relieve the situation as units and San Francisco officials reported barricades and multiple gunfire incidents through the night.
New York August reports say a long conference between Associated Press manager M B Stone and a committee of striking operators reached a promising compromise.
