New York Aug 19 A plot against Mayor Gaynor involving policeman Joseph PP Hook unsettled the afternoon after four hearings. Deputy Police Commissioner Walsh dismissed the case for lack of evidence. Two girls alleged Hook drank the night before the mayor was shot but could not identify him as the man they talked with.
Indianapolis Aug. 19 The United Mine Workers special committee, named by President T. L Lewis, remains in executive session as it reports on subjects before the international convention. Delays arise from disagreement over an assessment for the strikers despite agreement on all topics, including endorsement of the filinoig strike and actions of the international executive board. President Lewiston, while cautious, says completion depends on the committee report.
