Prohibition agents in grease and overalls raided Garc ş a s home near Atrisco and found whisky while Garcia admitted plans to produce a 100 gallon batch. He pleaded guilty to possession and sale and was sent to federal court as other suspects face charges for possession of liquor. Officers also seized moonshine at 769 North Third Street and red whisky in a Bronx hotel room trunk as arrests are prepared for Monday before Commissioner L. M. Bliss.
W J Kingsbury president of the Farmers and Merchants bank of Tempe Arizona Thornton Jones Jr cashier Viola Kingsbury and W W Kingsbury wife and son of Kingsbury were indicted for wilful misapplication of funds in the bank. The grand jury also charged Jones and Mrs Kingsbury with receiving deposits in an insolvent bank and Kingsbury with permitting deposits to be received. Jones faces additional indictments for mutilation and destruction of bank records following the bank’s closure after a vault fire. All defendants were arrested on county attorney complaints prior to the grand jury session prompted by Governor Trunt’s inquiry.
A heavy shower fell Wednesday afternoon after a light Tuesday night rain, raising hopes that the cotton crop will recover. The area had been dry for a long period and water supply from the northern canal could not reach all fields, but the recent showers provide beneficial moisture for the crops.

El Paso Texas April 18 1908 district governor of Rotary International for the Pacific district G A Martin married Miss Edna Chrys Timpe of Chicago The couple met at a Rotary dinner in Chicago July 26 and will visit Rotary clubs in Arizona New Mexico and Western Texas after the ceremony Edna Timpe has connections with Rotary in Chicago and Mr Martin is managing editor of the El Paso Herald
Washington August 18 President Coolidge for the first time since becoming chief executive went horseback riding as recreation after a Coal Commission conference. He viewed the White Horse stables horses including General the chestnut gelding and rode along the Potomac river speedway bridle path while photographers scrambled to capture his ride.
Governor General Leonard Wood told the American Chamber of Commerce there is not a single political issue in the Philippines and urged plain speaking. He warned against stirring racial antipathy and non cooperation, stressing long standing ties with the United States and a goal of cooperative governance to attract investment.
Santa Fe August 18 United States Marshal Secundino Romero endured a vigil at the Looney ranch in Rio Arriba county watching for John Looney the Rock Island Illinois fugitive. After 24 hours Romero approached the door with his badge and was met by Looney’s daughter who claimed her father was in hiding and would return at the proper time. The posse waited and no sign of Looney appeared. the family hinted of a political upset and offered a bounty claim related to his killing. Authorities have pursued Looney for months with suspicions he fled to Mexico after a brief Santa Fe visit and deposition before a notary.
A fire at 1:15 this morning gutted the new Ameri can Furniture Co. home at Second Street and West Coal Avenue. Flames at 2:80 threatened nearby buildings as the vacant Pxcel Sior Laundry property burned. No damage estimate available early this morning.

Nelson, T. C. Aug. 18. Hornets force cessation of timber work around Grie, B C. The Fruitvale principal camp was shut down as insects make conditions unbearable and raise accident risk. Hornets, wasps, bottle and gray flies are thicker this year in the woods nearby.

Maurice Danziger started a subscription and a special meeting was set to discuss immediate construction. Physicians foresee strong interest from visitors across the United States and investors see a new era for the region.
The Metcalf building between Central and Gold on Third Street, owned by Mary A. Metcalf, was sold to Dr. L. S. Peters, owner of the adjacent K. P. building. The price is not public but believed near $50,000. Contractors remodeled two years ago, adding modern amenities. Peters plans no major changes.

London Aug 18. Three communists were killed and eight wounded in further fighting with police at Datteln Westphalia. The communists tried to force a meeting defying local orders. Ring leaders resisted arrest and fighting followed. order was restored.
Texas rangers, dispatched across the state, investigate a wave of kidnappings and flogging reports from Texarkana to Port Arthur. In Amarillo, Sheriff Les Whitaker was jailed on conspiracy charges as the inquiry widens with cases in Wichita Falls and Port Arthur.
