Olympia Wash Aug 18 The governors telegram to President Wilson urges a three state commission to investigate the Washington Idaho Oregon lumber industry. The request follows failed efforts to settle disputes between workers and employers and warns the situation could worsen.
Phoenix Arizona August 18 Sheriff Harry Wheeler says he would repeat deportations of alleged I W W members if his people are endangered by a mob of 80 percent aliens and enemies of the government. He cites secrecy to avoid bloodshed and notes lack of jail space and state or federal aid.
Miss Grace Lusk a school teacher was held to the December term with no bail in the killing of Mrs. Mary Roberts wife of Dr. David Roberts at their home June 21. The case revealed a troubling friendship between Lusk and the veterinarian, with letters and evidence presented at a preliminary hearing.

Richmond Ind Aug 18 Permission to change the name of East Germantown to Pershing was received by Frank Gipe postmaster from the post office department today Residents of the town ten miles east of here requested the change saying the name implied Germans The town was settled over a century ago by Pennsylvania Dutch.
Dr Karl Armguard Graves a self styled international spy is held incommunicado at police headquarters as government agents investigate his claims of employment by the state department A recommendation that Graves be interned for the remainder of the war was telegraphed to Washington by United States district attorney Francis W Wilson
