James J. Gallagher, a discharged city employee who shot Mayor Gaynor, is described by counsel as having been deemed irresponsible by Dr John Reilly of the Knights of Columbus. Reilly found a low skull mood suggesting injury and noted Gallagher exaggerated his self importance while in custody. The warden says Gallagher now prays for the mayor's recovery.
