In Trinidad Colorado district 15 miners face a looming strike after the fatal shooting of Gerlad Lippiatt by G W Belcher and Walter Belk. A large crowd gathers as vice president Frank J Hayes and John McLennan arrive for the federation convention. An inquest is planned Tuesday as recall drives target Sheriff Grisham.

South Norwalk Connecticut August 17 a large steam yacht anchored for two hours off Aeton Point about half a mile offshore. She steamed east in the afternoon drawing attention as yachts rarely anchor there. No confirmation available at this time.

Birmingham reports Henry Enis, suspected in the May 12 1942 New Orleans and Northwestern train robbery near Hattiesburg Mississippi, was captured near Carben Hill Alabama. He was brought to Birmingham and placed in jail.
Mrs Everett M Beemer wife of a county pioneer was killed instantly when the auto crossed a Rock Island crossing at La Dora and was struck by an eastbound Rock Island fast mail train. Her husband Mr Beemer suffered fatal injuries in the crash which occurred August 11.
A late night blaze near downtown Omaha caused estimated losses of 200000 and injured three firemen including Captain John F. Enele who suffered a fractured skull after being knocked from a ladder. The fire started from spontaneous combustion in the rear of Burgess Granden, an electrical and gas fixture house on Toward Street between Thirteenth and Sixteenth.
El Paso August 17. General Francisco Villa with 1560 troops leads a march south from Ascension Chihuahua toward San Buena Ventura in Galeana valley six ty miles west of Gallego on the Mexican National railroad. U S army says the entire army moved south toward Madera district while authorities wait for Villa’s next move.
In Mexico City on August 17 John Lind acting as President Wilson’s representative faces mixed local pressure over applying Article 33 to Dr William Bayard Hale who is aiding US investigations. Public sentiment has shifted with some urging Hale’s expulsion as a spy while Lind’s stance appears less certain and a decision is expected within days.
The death of Mary Coes dean of Radcliffe College in Brookline hospital was made known today in Boston on August 17.
