From Tokio and Pekin to St. Petersburg, reports show Japan pressing Port Arthur with a demand for surrender and promise to spare non combatants. Russian and Japanese actions outline bombardment, fortifications, and continued resistance as troops and fleet maneuver in the theater.
The Yokohama Daily Mail correspondent reports the cruiser Naevik of Port Arthur squadron sighted near Biran Vandleren and steering toward Viadive stock.
Tokyo aug 14 reports say the Russian protected cruiser Pushida was torpedoed and sunk during the August 10 naval clash off Port Arthur. It is uncertain whether she fled, and whether wreckage or survivors are found as Admiral Togo continues pursuit of Russian ships.
A Teing Tau telegram says officers of Czaric Canrevin insist a Japanese battleship sank in full view during the night battle of August 10. A report also claims the protected cruiser Pallada was torpedoed and sunk in the same engagement.

Chicagon August 16. Packers form committees to Mayor Haarrison and refuse joint conference with strike leaders. They claim the strike is won and reject outside mediation. The mayor says his good offices are useless and will not push a meeting.
Mayors intervention failed to ease the Chicago packing house strike as packers form a committee for a city hall meeting while a company official declares no action from the mayor can settle the dispute. Strike leaders remain divided with Donnelly prioritizing hog butchers over the mayor.
In New York on August 16 the Building Trades alliance authorized a strike by calling out all workers on four ongoing large construction projects as a result of a threat from the Building Trades Home players association.
In Statesboro Georgia on August 16 a mob seized Paul Reed and Will Cato from a courthouse guard, dragged them to the Hodges homestead, and burned them alive after both had been found guilty and sentenced to hang for the murder of Henry Hodges his wife and their three children. The crowd overpowered a military guard and moved to a woodland strip where speakers incited further violence.
Shortly before 1 o'clock a crowd addressed by a tall man urged action. Oglethorpe Light Infantry under Lt Hiteh posted guards with unloaded rifles on stairways. The mob pressed thrice, then surged again as twenty five men seized two guards and opened breechblocks to verify their unloaded weapons.
A factional incident shows deputy sheriffs allied with lynchers overpowering soldiers. Captain Robert H. Hitech was seized by a deputy, hustled outside, and disarmed. Deputies allegedly unlocked a guard door as they moved prisoners and identified Reed and Cata.
Missouri congressman Champ Clark clashed with Tion Quarles Landis at the Chautauqua Association grounds in Jeffersonville Indiana. He accused Republicans of protecting an assassin and threatened violence from the platform after a heckler rebutted his claims.
Thury, Davie will be formally notified tomorrow at 1 o clock that he is the Democrats nominee for vice president. John Sharp Willasame, Mississippi, chairman of the notification committee, will announce in a one hour speech. Davis will accept and briefly discuss the political situation. The ceremony is set in a natural amphitheatre on the White Sulphur Springs hotel lawn with two speeches and music by the Old Mionewall Brigade.
Dallas, Aug 16 Judge Richard Morgan appointed J 4 Kckford as receiver for the Fidelity Bar Association of Dallas after a petition by J L Snodgrass of Denver. Snodgrass held stock certificates totaling 5 000 and claims nonpayment, seeking debt collection and foreclosure. The association reportedly has 179 000 in securities with 176 800 invested. Ardmore and London items follow describe patents and rebel actions in the region.
In Paris on August 16 Mr Perdicaria argues the Moorish brigands threaten Tangier and proposes French action to protect European residents. He claims the Moorish regular troupe in Tangier is useless and notes Raisuli’s history as a tribal chief unjustly imprisoned for four years.
Ardmore August 14 Malse Hiasch is bound over to await grand jury action after allegedly shooting Liste Pickens near Tatum. Motive for the crime is not known.
Troops reportedly ordered not to load rifles as captured soldiers were held as prisoners. One man among a crowd approached guards and hurled himself at them, while others were relieved of their rifles after struggles.

Aug. Iice Joseph Jeffer son was at his summer home when a Boston doctor diagnosed a severe indigestion. The condition was quickly relieved and he was reported much improved this morning.
