Sellers organize mass meetings after being turned down at the first commissioner session to gauge public sentiment on the 10 Gullegt exhibit for the exposition.
Torrance county commissioners vote to appropriate $500 for a county exhibit at the state fair Albuquerque. Colonel Sellers led mass meetings in Mountainair Willard Eneina Estancia to show public support. County Agent Tarrell to assemble exhibit aiming for a $1,000 prize and broad county backing.
Otero county commissioners approved a $500 appropriation to finance a complete exhibit of the county’s resources in Albuquerque in October. A committee will be chosen later to manage funds with aid from County Treasurer James A. Baird and Alamogordo boosters Otto Tinklepaugh and Guthrie Smith.
Lawrence Lyon a 24 year old aviator from Ithaca was drowned today at Cone Lake when his airplane turned over and plunged into the water near Rochester New York.
Bankers from eight cotton states form the Cotton States Bankers' conference in Galveston and vow to back farmers for a fair uniform price. They plan gradual marketing of cotton with advances to farmers on securities and rediscounting by the four southern federal reserve banks to expand available credit. The next meeting is set for late 1930s.
Attorney General Gregory has decided 4000 federal prisoners could be employed to mass produce goods for government use including army tents and uniforms. Current work focuses on enlarging prison living quarters with completion likely in a year. If approved, estimates will be sent to Congress this fall for machinery to manufacture items for the war department.
St Louis August 14 The second day of the teamsters strike passed without violence but no settlement in sight. Transfer firms will not act to end the strike until Monday. Union leaders estimate over 1 000 teamsters are out while employers peg the number at about 7 000.
Five Mexican states and one territory announce through military governors that the revolution is ended for them and that Carranza Villa or Zapata factions could be resisted if they advance. Villa forces claim Carranza prestige lost in Chiapas as clashes with 1,500 troops occur at Agua Nueva and La Encantada with 21 killed and many wounded. A $500,000 damages suit is filed in the Forty-First District Court against Francisco Villa for forced loans and confiscations in Laguna and Gomez Palacio.
Marauding forces absorb strength on a long international line. A U S defense assessment notes 17 000 soldiers on the border are insufficient to stop incursions. Washington weighs contingency plans and new deployments.
Washington Aug 14 The War department ordered one Texas City infantry regiment to Brownsville and sent one 4.7 inch howitzer battery from Fort Sill to Brownsville. Major General Funston seeks stronger border protection amid raider threats with additional artillery and an aeroplane. Major General Munston will select the infantry unit. Fort Sill will supply the batteries.
Brownsville Texas reports warn that Mexican outlaws seeking to spark a southern Texas revolution are thwarted. Texas Ranger J M Fox says one bandit is dead near Raymondville while other authorities, including Natarrette of Carranza forces, vow to bar armed Mexicans from crossing the Rio Grande. U S consul Johnson notes Huerta loyalists may fuel the unrest, and aviation scouts are discussed to spot bandit camps along brush borders.
General Frederick Funston after a conference with Congressman John Garner headed a committee asserting that constitutionalist Mexican authorities fostered disorder in the Rio Grande valley. Avon affidavits claim a Mexican date for sacking Brownsville and Funston says evidence convinces him of Mexican backing.
Reports describe orders to move infantry and artillery from Brownsville to Laredo and Matamoros area. Units include Ninth Infantry detachments and two batteries, with aeroplane elements, amid Mexican garrison strength and potential co operation with Nafarrate.
Hloneton Tex Ave 14 reports under orders of the War Department the Twenty-sixth Infantry under Col Robert L Ruilard is entraining at once for Brownaville from division headquarters in Texas City. About 900 officers and men are available for the move.
The jury at the Panama-California exposition awarded New Mexico grand prizes for a Special copper exhibit, its mineral display, and the state building. Nevada took top honors for Wheat and barley displays as Montana earned the agricultural grand prize. New Mexico leads with 463 points, Nevada 369.

Washington learns of a joint Pan American appeal signed by U S Secretary of State and ambassadors from Bolivia Uruguay Chile Argentina and Brazil. The message urges Mexican political and military leaders to meet on neutral ground to establish peace and begin constitutional reconstruction with an immediate general election.
The Pan American conference sent appeals to Generals Carranza and Villa and more than twenty Mexican leaders by cable and wireless seeking replies within ten days. If Carranza rejects or stalls, conferees may invite other factions to form a peace conference and possibly extend embargo actions on an army train to back a new government.
J P Morgan plans to return to his Nile office in New York on Monday after being shot at his home in Cien Cove New York. Extraordinary precautions will protect him from annoyance or harm. His yacht Corsair will shuttle him daily and a curtained meteor car will meet him at an undisclosed landing. The routine is meant to keep his movements private.
The U S Commission on Industrial Relations finished three main reports plus supplemental opinions after two years of study. The Wisconsin professor led one report with a diverse group on its cover, while a staff report and a third signed item detailed findings and reasons for the staff conclusions. Commissioners Garretson Walsh Lennon O Connell and Ballard issued statements. Walsh departed for Kansas City to supervise distribution of copies on Colorado and Bayonne strikes.
The Austro Hungarian embassy in Washington released Vienna’s denial that Russians and Serbians are being used on the southern front against Italy and calls the Italian reports of victory at Zagora and Paljeva pure invention with all positions in our possession.

Mackensen resumes advance between the Vistula and Bug after delays from Russian counterattacks. Western front sees a disputed German claim of a local Ar gonne success unconfirmed by French reports.

Italian theater notes repulsed attacks along the Tyrolan frontier Fedaja area and on the Bopena line.
