Senate backs President Wilson in a rare show of unity to avoid war with Mexico if possible. Conference results indicate bipartisan cooperation to prevent conflict and seek peaceful resolution.
Washington Aug 10 With John Lind the personal representative of President Wilson the administration says no move to force Huerta out but will urge a free election. Senator Bacon says the president seeks peaceful settlement and seeks Senate cooperation while avoiding war. Tacoma to ferry Americans from Mexico as turmoil continues.
Report says a light draft vessel will be dropped into a shallow cove for a subsequent voyage. Tacoma will head to Norfolk for coal then steam south toward Vera Cruz to rejoin late ships off the Mexican coast.
Governor Sulzer after a meeting with advisers issued a denial of allegations that he used campaign funds for speculation. He said he never heard of Muller & Gray and Royer & Griswold until named in testimony, admitted some personal use of funds but repaid it, and claimed stock firm Harris & Fuller involved a loan, not speculation. The secretary Charles Piatt released the statement to the press.
Twenty suffragettes interrupted a morning service at Westminster Abbey repeating the chant used at St Paul's Cathedral last Sunday and were ejected with little disturbance.
A night cloudburst near Colorado Springs floods Colorado City and Fountain Creek. Water three feet deep inundates streets, homes marooned residents rescued from Colorado City to Manitou, bridges wash out along the Midland. Fountain and surrounding areas face rising flood danger with no loss of life reported.

River watchers patrol to issue alerts if levels rise further though officials expect no serious damage as the Arkansas River is seen to carry excess water away. Residents in river bottoms pack belongings and await further word.
A August 10 cloudburst caused about 100000 in damage in Colorado City Colorado. Many crops and ranches were ruined and at least fifty families were left homeless. Neighboring residents rescued residents from rising waters including a mother and her infant and several others were saved by boat or horseback as floodwaters reached three to five feet on Colorado Avenue.

Minor, N. C., Aug. 10. Eighty arrests were made following riotous scenes after Industrial Workers of the World attempted street meetings and urged harvest hands to refuse work unless wages rose. The jail is crowded and threats of violence loom, but police report the situation under control.
Committees to attend the funerals of two Democratic National Committee members were named by Homer S. Cummings. Clark Howell Georgia William D. Jelks Alabama and William N. Nicavansugh Arkansas will attend O L Mountcastle Tennessee who died in Knoxville. Attendees for Thomas J McDune Colorado who died in Denver include Martin Wade Iowa PL Hall Nebraska and William P Supp Kansas.
