Insolvent and death in path. Hopeless bankers flee. De funct Milwaukee Avenue institution in Chicago found looted of contents.
A devastating tornado ripped through a Texas town causing multiple fatalities and widespread ruin. Telegraph lines were down hindering communication as rescue teams searched for survivors. Local authorities urged residents to stay clear of dangerous debris and await further updates.
Theodore Stensland, vice president of the Milwaukee Avenue State Bank, was arrested on insolvency related charges after the bank was placed in receivership. Father Paul Stensland and Cashier Herring fled. deposits may pay about 70 cents on the dollar. Police suspect the elder Stensland fled to Canada as fraud probes widen.
William Johnson, balloonist, ascended 3000 feet during a Little Palla street fair. His parachute failed on descent and he struck railroad tracks, sustaining injuries deemed fatal. The incident occurred as Johnson performed a double parachute descent.
Mrs Erima Le Doux was sentenced in Storkton California to be hanged October 19 on conviction for the murder of Albert H McViccar a miner she lived with as husband and wife the case will be appealed.
Reports from Amarillo Texas and New Orleans describe electical storms and a tornado that flattened Canon City killing several. A farmer Riggs family near Amarillo was killed by lightning. Crop losses are vast with hundreds of thousands expected. A pursuance reports a train of prospectors stranded between San Angelo and Ballinger as bridges and tracks washed out and livestock carcasses float by the Concho river.
Reports from Fort Worth and Dallas stress that flood damage is overestimated. Western and central Texas saw heavy rain but no confirmed deaths. Bridges washed out on Rock Island and Frisco lines hinder rail service for days while cattle losses and crop damage occur in San Angelo area.

New York August 7 dispatch reports the executive committee of the employing ideographers association declaring for an open shop in all branches. The move affects about 36 000 workers nationwide.
News from Santa Fe New Mexico August 7 describes an unknown man ambushing Agent W W Dycus of the Santa Fe Central railway near Willard. Mrs Dycus fired twice as the suspect fled. both deny and police hunt the assailant.
In Saratoga N Y Aug 7 police raided the bridge whist club house run by Joe Ullman after a message from Governor Higgins on enforcing the law. The proprietors and employees were arrested while furniture was removed. players were not placed in custody.
In Denver the district court judge ruled the inquiry lacking jurisdiction over franchise contest cases. Attorneys asked the supreme court for a writ to overturn. Testimony included J. R. Cook Jr and Fred Williams who were fined for refusing to swear. Judge Lindsay granted jurisdiction, vacated some orders, and ordered ballot boxes brought into court.
Captain Arthur Trelford warden of the territorial penitentiary reports satisfaction with the Las Vegas end of the scenic highway. He notes Santa Fe end work is within a mile and a half of the Pecos forest reserve and plans to move convicts to Las Vegas to finish this section by winter. He expects spring work on the Raton Las Vegas end and hopes for federal funding to finish the line across the reserve.
Reported from St. Petersburg Aug 7 that authorities seized rifles and ammunition en route to unrest zones as Stolypin presses a hard line on agrarian reform. Dispatches note tensions with revolutionaries rising in the south amid calls for removal of a regional commander and a governor seeking $850,000 for starving Shusha and Yoangesur.

The Iowa Democratic State Convention nominated Claud R. Porter of Appanoose for governor and adopted a platform urging tariff revenue use only, direct election of U S senators, and anti trust laws. They pledged support for William J. Bryan in 1908 and listed the ticket for state offices including Denison, McLuen, Munroe, Danforth, Wilson, and others.
At Coeur d Alene Idaho on August 7 the Idaho Democratic convention endorsed a platform led by Senator Fred T Dubois pledging anti Mormonism as a keynote. The ticket includes Rees Hattabaugh for Congress Stewart Denning for Supreme Court Stocksinger for governor and others urging a test oath to bar polygamy linked church influence in politics.
Three NC National Guard companies surround the Salisbury hall with sentries patrolling the four streets around the prison. Loaded guns and orders to shoot to kill are in effect as threats and rumors circulate though no demonstration has occurred. Ex-convict George Mall, alleged mob leader, is in jail.
Berlin August 7 Panul Morton president of the Equitable Life Assurance Society spent yesterday reviewing records of the German branch. He departs for Paris and then departs for America August 15. Morton says European investigations show the campaign against American insurers has subsided and suggests normal business will resume here soon.
A terse note reports Meyer facing a conspiracy charge with a ten brand jury involved. Details are sparse and names beyond Meyer are not provided.
Las Vegas N M August 7 Justice Jose Baca y Garcia bound Lewis J Meyer Jr over to the grand jury under 38000 bonds on conspiring with L P King now in the territorial penitentiary to tamper with a Santa Fe engine. Meyer employed seven years at Adlon machine shops and denies Santa Fe ties. King confessed to placing empry in engine oil cups and sent a letter to Meyer about a supposed deal. The case drew strong local interest with testimony from Williams For ness Coffin and others. Meyer faces Santa Fe and Cas t nada hearings with defend ants challenging admissibility of much evidence.
New York August reports President Stecher of the employing lithographers association says 39 000 strikers will continue the fight for six months or a year with arbitration and open shop favored by members. President Hamilton reports funds for an eight month fight and firm solidarity. London news notes privy council committee recommending dismissal of the appeal in the Dunsmuir will case involving Edma Voce Hopper and James Dunsmuir, former premier.
