Charles Linville a sub contractor on the Pike's Peak automobile highway was struck by lightning on the summit at 2 PM and killed instantly. Several men in the construction crew nearby were injured, according to Colorado Springs reports. Linville was from Wagon Pueblo.
French forces attack German positions near Verdun in a bid to relieve the line. German countermeasures falter as Teutons lose several positions while Crown Prince directs a vigorous effort to regain them.
Russian forces press toward Kovel in Volhynia after recapture near Rudka Miryanskia as 400 Russians are reported wounded. French Ver dun operations on the Meuse push to hold Thiaumont and Fleury, with heavy fighting and German counter attacks. A British air squadron bombs Ghent region with two tons dropped. damage reported.
Russian war office reports forces crossed to the left bank of the Stekhed near Lubiessow and fought street battles at Kodka-Mirynskaia on the Stavok river. They claimed 600 German prisoners and twelve machine guns while repelling attacks near Koryinik.
El Paso report says the director of railways granted an eight hour working day to all employees of the National Railways of Mexico. Andres Garcia the local Mexican consul announced upon receipt of dispatches from Mexico City that the danger of a nationwide strike is averted.
Last chapter in prosecutions growing out of Colorado coal fields strike ends as judge closes case. Court orders dismissals leave no defendants charged with murder in the final action related to the labor dispute.

In Colorado Springs the court dismissed four defendants Diamond Snyder and the Winbergs and moved to strike 47 from Trinidad docket. Only John B. R. Lawson and James T. Davis face potential prosecution now for the murder of Thomas Wheatley in Aguilar after the Luchowald fire.
