New Orleans reports more cases but fewer deaths as the yellow fever fight continues. Officials expect a daily 20 to 25 cases and related deaths while stressing mosquito control, sanitation drives, and coordination with civil authorities to prevent armed intrusions and aid the sweeping public health effort.
Calcasieu Parish Louisiana informs Southern Pacific trains to enter after midnight cutting Houston New Orleans communication and mail flow. Echo detention camp holds over 100 people voicing dire conditions and scarce meals and sleeping space. Tokio reports two Russian torpedo boat destroyers appeared off Chung Ching on Korea's north coast at 4 40 am and fired sixty shots at the Keisho. Seven hits struck the engine room and bridge killing the captain and a boy and wounding two crewmen. The destroyers left toward Viladive stock at 5 am. the Keisho continued its voyage and escaped.
Mail advices report the former liner Nippon, acting as a Japanese scouting vessel, was so badly damaged by shells from a Russian warship in the Sea of Japan battle that it was run ashore. The vessel can likely be raised and resume service to this port.
Ike Kinney, a desperado, killed two people at Stamps and Greensburg before a posse cornered him near Doella. He shot at pursuing civilians, wounding several, then was killed in a river bottom as the search continued. A $1500 reward had been offered for his capture.
Fourteen to sixteen year old youths are linked to the murder of Thomas W. Cook as one boy confesses after arrest. Pembroke claims Blaker struck Cook with a lead pipe while the others carried out the robbery and fled the scene.
New York August 3 The executive committee appointed to investigate insurance companies has not yet selected counsel to conduct its investigations. Chairman Armstrong said the sub committee searched all day for a lawyer but no selection was made and no decision will be reached this week. The committee met informally tonight and adjourned until Monday. Members will visit their homes in the interim.
Saulte ste Marie Aug 3 commemorative exercises in the government park beside the ship canal formed the second day of the semi centennial celebration of the opening of the St Marys ship canal connecting Lake Superior with the lower lakes. The program featured addresses led by vice president C W Fairbanks.
A morning Rockwood to Johnstown rail wreck eight miles from Johnstown injures several people. Miss Mable Reed of Somerset is fatally injured, Miss Emma Viceroy of Windber is seriously hurt with potential death, and others suffer serious injuries. Cause cited a broken rail.

Denver August 3 The Rio Grande section hands strike begun last evening shows little impact on trains. About half of the 2000 workers have quit. replacements will be drawn from 1000 extra nonunion men already on the line.
Santa Fe County New Mexico facing a possible receivership as bonds totaling about 1 million dollars may be placed under receivership if negotiations fail. Principal and interest on railway aid bonds used to spur railroad construction are in default, with two New York banking houses as principal holders.
